Regaining the Edge

I'm about three weeks into getting back to working out after the three month recovery period from the accident and it's been a bit of a very inconsistent flow into it.

Of course, during these first few sessions it all hinges on listening to my body, taking into consideration that some of the damage is permanent; but not being afraid to push forward.

Tiffany and I were cleared to go back to workout. Yes, with some reservations on what exactly we should or should not be doing.

Thankfully and although the injuries were impactful; our quality of life is no different than when we got sick with COVID in March 2021.

The COVID and the car accident were two huge jolts to our bodies the last two years that makes getting back into the swing of things more challenging.

Tiffa and I have done rather well considering that we have worked out in about 10 sessions since we got back on August 29th and made it through each workout unscathed.

We were already battling the effects from the COVID fallout before the car accident, but we were still working out and although our endurance took a huge hit, because breathing is tougher after the COVID; we were still crushing our workouts.

Thankfully and because I'm a Gemini, who always have to look at both sides of things and because the doctors said as much, working out for many years before those incidents; helped us immensely.

We have been able to continue pushing through the workouts and life itself.

What is lacking for both of us, is that we are missing that edge. Before March 2021, there was this extra fire that burned inside of us. We both felt indestructible to a certain extent.

I don't have kids so that also helped me not age as quick as others lol, but Tiffany has three boys and I have been in their lives for a big chunk of it. Thankfully, their father is still around; so I can just be the disciplinarian and make sure they are safe where Tiffa has to be the worrier and their father has to be the loving dad and add that extra layer of discipline. Tiffa lacks the discipline part lol.

Admittedly, we aren't spring chickens as I'm past 55 and Tiffa is ten years younger than me, but we have been able to defy a lot of the age thing by being super active.

Not only the **High Intensity Interval Training** sessions, but running events, spin cycling, long walking activities, obstacle course races and a few other things that we wouldn't have done without being fit enough to do otherwise.

Our ebb and flow is very mucky right now, because although we are thankfully back to working out, the real work is ahead of us.

We both have gained weight after working so hard to have maintained for so long. We both are battling mental fatigue, new injuries, old injuries and just searching for that spark we were just feeling not too long ago.

I could see if we were talking five, ten, fifteen years ago. We are talking about a big chunk of years before March 2021 where it was constant beast mode. That's really not a long time ago.

Don't get me wrong, this post is not about feeling sorry for myself or in search of any motivation or sympathy.

This post is about, my refusal to let those setbacks stop me from doing what I am passionate about and as long as I can fight through the aches, the pains, the mental battles in a healthy way then I know that I will regain that edge once again and of course I'm watching Tiffa closely and making sure she doesn't lose hope.
