Here's the ruleset for this week's battle

The equal opportunity ruleset is a fun one. It gives you the opportunity to attack from your back line with anything which is great in high mana battles where you have so many great tanks that don't always get to come off the shelf. It also pairs well with situations where you want to take down your opponent's monsters early and often with something like the enrage ability or the trample ability. Last but not least, the equal opportunity ruleset is great with the martyr ability.

Taking sides means that nobody gets to use neutral monsters. I just talked about how great the martyr ability pairs with equal opportunity, well Venari Marksrat is great for equal opportunity, but it's out because of taking sides.

The demoralize ability and the protect ability are great when you think there might be extra melee attackers. It can also be helpful to use magic attacks for reliable hits that might take your opponent by surprise.

Here's the starting frame

My opponent and I made some similar choices here. Think about how this might play out before watching this battle.

Let's talk about my lineup

Summoner: Lobb Lowland

![image.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/jingo-submo/23uFHBQAFxhSQDBgy7uScsbP3MJFyZoZZwuhQXesQHftjzeoWsuJeuDT7kpeucAcztMhk.png)

Lobb slows my opponent's monsters and gives me access to gladius cards.

Tank: Grund

![image.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/jingo-submo/23w2D6hySdb36yPSKikroMWwGCByKVwtKFKhDTyxSRCsYjJjTvgHswY16oYeop54B78B7.png)

Grund is so great as an attacker dealing out 6 damage each turn under normal circumstances. Defensively Grund starts with 10 health, but frequently goes down too fast to be a good tank.
I usually like to use Grund from someplace besides the tank position so that it won't go down so quickly. The equal opportunity ruleset makes that possible, but it also means that Grund as a tank is less of a liability because my opponent's monsters will target something else with the opportunity ability.
The other part of me using Grund in this battle is that the double strike ability pairs so well with the martyr and enrage abilities.

1st position: Fungus Flinger

![image.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/jingo-submo/EopmA3XLGjXvAcTVAo4duMMpvvdFmXtp7AVUAJkoTRBeAHedruh3e5A2FLZmDah4wFB.png)

Venari Marksrat is out due to taking sides, but Fungus Flinger is pretty much the same thing. I put it here between 2 double strikers so that they could each get that martyr boost. The martyr boost is twice as effective with double strike and gives me plus 4 damage each turn for 1 martyr.

2nd position: Katrelba Gobson

![image.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/jingo-submo/Eo8KXXwYhJRvRerC7jK8irXxX848ezLNiaxeGmcw6is6mmtKLhZQLrAFVsoz5SD8iRB.png)

I think the sneak ability actually supersedes the opportunity ability, but that double strike is too good to pass up.

3rd position: Queen Mycelia

![image.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/jingo-submo/23vhRmpD4KTBTayFPJhfmpmoY39g215b3J6gyNPc5gGPJhPF57XeQP3ZTVUtzedaSQ3fv.png)

Queen Mycelia is here for the protect ability which should buy me a little extra time before my opponent's monsters can attack Katrelba. It didn't work out because my opponent countered it with their summoner, but that wasn't enough for them.

4th position: Fungus Fiend

![image.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/jingo-submo/EogEfd3o3h9VSR7VmCvAZmZLHvZL6kSu8Rs2mHNQb6JnHiLzNhaFLAL3C1PJd1vLTbF.png)

The Fiend costs 0 mana and is here to soak up a hit or 2 to allow Katrelba to get up to speed.

Did we win?

Yes. Double strike-a-palooza was a big time win.

What will I try differently next time?

One of the strategies that I didn't talk about for the equal opportunity ruleset is to use a monster with the taunt ability. An obsidian lineup with or without Mycelic Slipspawn may have worked well here.

Thanks for reading and thanks for all the upvotes, reblogs, comments and follows. I'll see you in the game. I hope the updated format that I'm using is helpful. Feel free to share any specific feedback in the comments.
