## Part One - Design Repetitive Patterns
<hr>

Have you ever wondered how to make a repetitive pattern like this:

![21be1c2b6d4fd70407ee14f567367a21--sea-drawing-art-patterns.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmXdKhmVYvyMLdtWyWuGva6A6PhqrrHUmXgGfxNi9Mb9fy/21be1c2b6d4fd70407ee14f567367a21--sea-drawing-art-patterns.jpg)

#### I'll teach you how!

..:: :: :: * :: :: ::..

1 - Draw something on a square paper and mark the middle (One way to see the middle is to fold it).

![3.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmS8zDMmTikkEKH9KhRGbq1JoSjmGm5PVTLnXw3t7cMciJ/3.JPG)

2 - Divide the paper into two parts and change sides.

![4.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmSJ1ewhbJF7M3KMhTjbnUKJpUrCyR9aFrJynvjgPDtstT/4.JPG)

3 - Draw something that connects the two parts of the paper.

![5.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmSnWDipZFMPXj9r8pzLknDcuUnc5S3kLacPApLxzAs4hd/5.JPG)

4 - Tape them together in the original order.

![6.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmXWEKaNVzT8AfqTXk1BDyc8tsrWqvwY2UWz3rn1k2dstc/6.JPG)

5 - For a horizontally repetitive pattern use the template and copy or trace the pattern.

![7.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmezbtedvExwyyGMkKoxoJWgcmkhEmDFUZYamBR4qA8uPq/7.JPG)

6 - For a repetitive pattern in all directions cut the paper in half horizontally.

![8.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmd751BLWKzoRG6WQp7aBBngkNj27HqcD8MKwsKXKoQA3u/8.JPG)

7 - Change sides.

![9.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmQG7B8a2Tdirz6woUff3kUHmvr71rr5DzmGo1PGm8L8x5/9.JPG)

8 - Draw something cool ! ๐Ÿ˜›

![10.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmRxWKR3UgV46Ex4et7oYeZv8y92gDsUfQajvXDYwLH6mM/10.JPG)

9 - Copy the pattern in all directions of the paper.

![11.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmTmi8Ln4WN4WRoyubjicTxyvjbaKr8oRPsCzpjaFjFutU/11.JPG)

![12.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmYUNbXyGxRGT41ysWspASkRa2ie9SQpL8wKHSjyfvAn2t/12.JPG)

10 - And I almost forgot. There is another way to think about the second pattern, see below.

![IMG_6793.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmQKcGQQSvpmKVJcnifiZjhSHZrHd8o2vTtiFQps6xF1Md/IMG_6793.JPG)

![IMG_6794.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmPGysKcVXoTvgGhApTiymqDedHVdCGNPfxBQ37C5eWHwi/IMG_6794.JPG)

11 - And do this if you want the pattern to repeat itself in a triangular way.

![IMG_6795.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmeubaTyAPS8EC6bq3D9599iJ6k8K2FXxAJPyfRpg17BGZ/IMG_6795.JPG)

*Of course it's easier to make it digitally, but this is made for the tiny art **challenge**. And then you can apply the theory in any setting.*

# Part Two - How To Make a Tiny Celtic Pattern

1 - I started by playing with some shapes.

![13.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmS2r86kRwsbE42pBmfXJVANZj4UiE96JR4fFwbvJNxvQz/13.JPG)

2 - Then I started to make the shapes more symmetrical by drawing them in a grid.

![14.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmbvB1FbMq89u4cyj8u4wvFufNYPu6Xbc5vz66qs2SL9bV/14.JPG)

3 - I kept on working on the symmetry - at this stage only with single lines.

![15.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmbHNcbDYG1WbX5cftNqZWVPbaBxedrX795jtURqzFhgRd/15.JPG)

4 - When I thought the design looked okay I started to add thickness to the lines. But be careful not to have too many lines running underneath each other.

![16.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmb3u4iY2yYgyj2MrVFL4Y9NGsm5b5kgRzhEwjnR54g1D3/16.JPG)

5 - Then the thicker lines was applied, I started to erase some lines and add thickness to others to make an overlapping effect.

![17.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmPBKcgFz3hpwFdmqJicHWDwbEj8w9D2KYS232uj3BPqUT/17.JPG)

6 - I cleaned the drawing.

![18.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmWyrwbiJf3iDGieypZ7d8L8qhJwJfS2WBYoqZDbCEnjWP/18.JPG)

7 - Cut in half.

![19.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmYF2dKpzX4ZRRfd3vM28LLxpnrvPJxZsoNNbZCFhy616M/19.JPG)

8 - Swapped sides and liked the pictures together.

![20.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmZ5EY1JK2ayESXQw7ZonTGPetvfRDJ9Q6grFU9dFgwCPn/20.JPG)

![21.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmZbqs31tqph4oT4KJvfyTirTqvoLcvqBLZzR8CMHfLhAy/21.JPG)

![22.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmWCwhFM7Dv4roXh4pPWR3uKM3GzgLaeZW3TUau4xuSsNR/22.JPG)

9 - And to make it a bit harder I translated the picture to a smaller size when the design was completed.

![23.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmZPDP7GGMp72akn1RwY855LsdBxLL4UTKLUCJidSKAkF2/23.JPG)

![24.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmVJArtGESpWZ3Hg4z6d9XEnBNcpBU3ompCJg2FRNHk76w/24.JPG)

10 - I used my Pigma Micron 005 ink pencil to fill in the lines.

![25.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmdtP69iX52JtCnawR3fFBQEixnV1xqLpmsRBUm8JhQwkg/25.JPG)

11 - I was a bit tired of the process at this stage and made some small error, it's human ;)

![26.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmbRCASYGXNv2ziatWmF2NRJ7xnJcJHWdjNJz75LtdkYns/26.JPG)

12 - To add some depth I drew black close to every overlap. And I wasn't planning to continue the patterns so I made a top and bottom.

![27.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmPWXDfAyW6WeGwSQpCgfGQw7wJetMrumoXtjqKcvuYCvn/27.JPG)

13 - And finally finished with some color.

![DSC_0027.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmUdyH87uQ8hcUaF4MbNUNaqmQqruRmGiCeE9KqaEYLM5S/DSC_0027.JPG)

I figured out that Celtic patterns are more beautiful in bigger scale - this was the first serious try to make one. I will defeatedly try to make a bigger one at another time. They are super fun to make!
