While living in El Salvador, we had a chance to raise some chickens and roosters. This was one of our favorites roosters. Absolutely beautiful big, strong, healthy rooster who also was great with his loud crowing. He did amazing job protecting the chickens and calling them to the food.
 .JPG)
His red comb and wattle was so nice and healthy red color, which is so important for the rooster/chicken survival. The role that it plays is to reduce the internal temperature of the chicken. It is a cooling system for the chickens since the chickens are not able to sweat. The roosters that have floppy wattle or no wattle are not very attractive to the chickens. Another role that the comb and wattle play within a chicken is that it also determines the chickens health. The brighter, and stronger the wattle is the healthier the chicken is. The pale or shrunken wattles are a great way to show us that the chicken is not doing well or is molting.
All content is original.
