Why, 60 years after the 1960s, psychadelic science has begun to replace psychiatric science
MAPS, The Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies, an organization for psychadelic research that has been around since the 80s, recently tweeted about wether or not psychadelic science was replacing psychiatric science.

Perhaps the question is not wether psychadelic science is the next revolution, but instead what sorts of law-structures has led to it being rejected for half a century.

# Laws are a subset of memes used to co-ordinate groups of brains

McLuhan used two broad classes of extensions of the organism: extensions of the body and extensions of cognitive functions. I’ve added a third category: extensions of social functions. The social functions in the human brain, which exist in the form of memes and that colonize the brain through imitation, makes it possible for the brain to program itself with co-ordination protocols which come in the form of laws.

Laws are an extension of the human brain.

The evolution of law began in the tribal society where the executive function of people co-ordinated similar to a pack of wolves, then as society grew larger with the introduction of agriculture, law took the shape of religion and propagated by threatening annihilation of the genes on one hand and promising “eternal life” on the other, thereby succeeding in ordering genes to replicate them.

With legal systems, laws were freed from the confines of brains that are dependent on gene multiplication, enabling new types of mediation, new incentive systems which could harness human attention in new ways.

# Story based consensus favors one main plot and builds its culture around this lowest-common denominator

<blockquote>Civilization itself is a memetic enterprise, an edifice of memetic replication, refinement, and evolution. As civilization became more complex and more inter- active with civilizations of other areas, the status quo-oriented memes also became more complex and more reinforced and rigid. These tradition-sustaining memes are only for themselves and are no longer concerned with the survival of the individual.

In order for brains to succeed in replicating and processing certain laws, those laws need to hijack lower-level functions such as survival instincts, and so religions as a vector for laws in the agricultural society propagated by threatening annihilation of the genes on one hand and promising “eternal life” on the other.

With legal systems there was a gradual externalization of law, moving them into a form of machine or technology with representative government, tough still dependent on hijacking the brain stem and limbic system.

As Pollan said, across societies and across history, a given culture will choose and even fetischise a given plot or two, and then marginalize and villify others, and it seems rather arbitrary, and these trances are then self re-inforcing.

These grand narratives, ideologies, are necessary to build consensus, and they put an upper limit on the sorts of ideas that could incubate within a specific human-technology ecosystem.

# In story-based consensus, certain ideas are rejected despite of the evidence, while others supported regardless of the evidence

Within certain ideologies or religions, there are state-sanctioned states of consciousness, memes that are selected for by the law itself. There are those that we condone and support regardless of the evidence, and there are those that we condemn and marginalize, regardless of the evidence, so there is a very strong and built-in enculturation effect.

Memes that are not aligned with the main story are filtered out through the process of meme-manipulation, i.e., the incoming signal being compared to contents of the association cortices and limbic structures which contain resident memes, and the executive function of the frontal cortex which runs on law.

Human beings evolved to “hear voices” which mediate them to be part of a larger system, this is what norms are, or moral, or faith, or any other law, and so what the brains executive function does is it is a co-ordination system used to co-ordinate multiple brains, similar to the executive organ of a government, or of a corporate body. [1]

# Psychiatric narratives are a mass hallucination

Dominance creates neurosis. Violence acts on the human brain through the fight and flight response, producing mental disorder.

To use Hysteria as an example, where today existing law systems have evolved sufficiently enough to allow people to be capable of hind-sight, when Hysteria was believed to be a mental disorder, that was actually a projection of neuroses which infested the male population. The only way to maintain the consensus trance was to project the neurosis onto healthy people. Not only did the neuroses which were the actual pathological memes not reside in the patient, they did not even reside in the female population. The female brain is less susceptive to neurosis. Estrogen seems to enhance oxytocin's ability to calm fight or flight responses, whereas testosterone, which males produce in high levels when stressed, is found to reduce the effects of oxytocin.

That is how well human beings, when governed by mob rule, project their emotions onto others to fit in with the prevailing grand narrative, which comes in the form of an ideology or a religion.

Psychiatry is a pseudo-science that projects neurotic people's disordered emotions onto healthy people, labeling them sick so that they can be hounded, providing a form of ventilation for those who are, de facto, using the clinical definition of pathological memes, sick. Psychiatry fails to cure disease. It creates diseases, which spread through hospitals. Diagnoses are, like MRSA, nosocomial diseases.

# Is psychadelic science the next revolution in the study of the brain

Yes and no. Psychadelic science is an old science and its revolution happened in the 60s. To call it "the next revolution" is perhaps to give too much credit to competition. What is happening now with the [decentralization of communication and of law](https://steemit.com/bitnation/@johan-nygren/decentralized-law-and-post-geographical-communication-leads-to-decentralized-borderless-virtual-nations-dbvns) is a popularization of that specific science. As an analogy, the Copernican revolution began with the publication of Nicolaus Copernicus, and then contributions to the “revolution” continued until finally ending with Isaac Newton’s work over a century later.

# Violence, as in dominance, is in an ideal world a loose-loose situation

Marriage used to be based on violence, because it was important for consensus that certain family bonds were formed, and then it evolved to mate choice as new ways of producing consensus were invented with the introduction of universal suffrage. By the mid-20th century, many Western countries had enacted legislation establishing legal equality between spouses in family law.

Nationality has been based on violence because it was important for consensus that certain tribal bonds were enforced, and now with the transition into DBVNs, [decentralized, borderless and virtual nations](https://www.forbes.com/sites/francescoppola/2016/04/03/ethereum-towards-a-new-bitsociety/#32c0dd1a3adc), the social contract will be replaced with mate choice as new ways of producing consensus are invented, where the blockchain is an early example of a distributed autonomous virtual state (DAVS).

As consensus is externalized and therefore and exactly for that reason [2] less reliant on the use of violence as laws are freed from the confines of brains that are dependent on gene multiplication so there is less need for laws to co-opt genes for their purpose, new forms of ideas are able to survive and propagate, which brings about a cultural revolution as the connected humans enter the scene. [3]

# 10.6 Implication of Liberation of Memes from Brains

<blockquote>In a sense, from the point of view of the memes, cyberspace may be the primal soup, in which various experiments are taking place as we speak – replications and extinctions of various combinations, recombinations, and dissolutions of newly created, fairly established, old, dying, mutated with vigor, mutated with deformity, etc., memes are taking place.

As memes are freed from the confines of brains that are dependent on gene multiplication, there is less need for the memes to co-opt genes for their purpose. Put another way, the assemblies of memes that had survival advantage in gene-based brains may not be as potent in replication in cyberspace and in brains that derive information directly from cyberspace (as opposed to from other brains exclusively).

One question is what role, if any, our brain (the coevolved gene–meme complex we call our brain of the twenty-first century) should play in manipulating this primal soup. It is possible that once memes have found a way to replicate and prosper outside of the human brain, memetic evolution in cyberspace may supersede gene–meme coevolution of the species.

Memetic liberation may thus result in the liberation of gene-based brains from the imperative of memetic replication.

# Swarm organization could eradicate neurosis

With swarm organization and stigmergy, using indirect co-ordination without the need for planning, control or communication, relying on economic protocols instead of dominance (where dominance [is an attention-mediation mechanism](https://steemit.com/evolution/@johan-nygren/on-the-end-of-dominance)), neurosis could be eradicated much in the same way that polio was eradicated, increasing health.

# Swarm basic income

Basic income as a concept has been based on violence because it was the only way to do taxation. My idea to use transaction pathways for [emergent swarm taxation](https://blog.p2pfoundation.net/swarm-redistribution-live-experiment-decentralized-basic-income-swarm-grow-taxes/2017/01/04) may be a way to achieve that using indirect co-ordination, and could be a foundational law structure for a [decentralized borderless virtual nation](https://futurism.com/bitnation-launches-worlds-first-virtual-constitution-virtual-nation/).
