Norwegian certifying company GNV DL announced that its platform My Story, based on blockchain and designed to document the history of manufacturing a product, has been adopted by four Italian wine producers, who will use the platform for the first time, to provide the consumers all the relevant information of the respective elaboration process of each wine, through a QR code that will be on the label of each bottle.

The production wineries are Michele Chiarlo, Ricci Curbastro, Ruffino and Torrevento, the first to use the new platform, DNV GL said in the announcement of the launch of My Story, last March. The details of the location of each vineyard, the method of collection, selection and pressing of the grapes, as well as those related to the fermentation and bottling of each wine will be stored in a blockchain. A summary of these data will be available to consumers through the QR codes, which will appear on the respective bottles from the end of this year.

My Story is our first solution based on the concept of Digital Quality Assurance, which in addition to tracking the product from the point of origin to the point of sale, includes the VeChain blockchain application that runs on the management platform of data from DNV GL, Veracity. This is just the first step of our journey in which we will leverage the combined and consistent use of Blockchain, Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence to help customers improve the performance of their products and increase the efficiency of the processes. DNV GL announced last January an alliance with VeChain to increase and ensure the efficiency levels of the supply chain processes, using blockchain to obtain information on its products and suppliers. The association allows to combine blockchain with the Internet of Things (IoT). In this way, the parameters related to the obtaining of the vine -temperature, humidity, acidity of the land- are part of the information that documents the elaboration of the wines.

The multinational consultancy Ernst & Young (EY) announced a year ago the creation of a blockchain aimed at tracking the wine supply chain, applied for the first time in the Italian winery Volpone, working with Italian partners for the collection of agricultural data. This initiative also proposed a QR code engraved on the bottle.
