Hello I'm Jonnybitcoin,
I'm a big Bitshares fan and was sad when Bytemaster(Dan L) said he was going to focus on this new project called steemit. I thought he didn't explain it very well on the beyond bitcoin hangouts, all he had to say was "It's reddit with money instead of points."
I'm mostly doing this post to see what making a post does and actually try and learn the difference  between steem power, steem and steam dollars. 

So far it seems like mining using interesting words instead of ASICs.
All i've done so far is upvote posts I like and it's given me $3 in steem power.  
It does seem to good to be true for me at the moment but so did bitcoin in 2011. 
I can see how addictive it could be.
Another thing I've noticed is how nice, polite and positive people are on steemit which I guess is due to the incentives for writing nicely.
