In life, we measure how well people live by the type of resources they are exposed to and can also automatically afford. When it comes to standard of living we equate it to materialism. This is because the word standard alone means "level". The way we usually say poor, rich, average or wealthy is actually trying to equate the level of exposure to what a certain person or persons can afford.

This extends to the fact that having a good shelter, having a good job, owning a car for comfort can improve our functionalities in life. A person using a gadget to perform a specific task for example will do better when it comes to efficiency. This is also the same with exposing a child to quality education, not minding the expense. This quality seems to be what raises the class of education and a child exposed to that quality is expected to do well in class and in life.

Standard of living is measurable because its attributes are physically quantifiable. This is because we can specifically attach things that are obvious to the reason as to why a person is living meagerly or living well. We can specifically point to the things that would determine the standard of living of a person because it is a process of causality that we can place our finger on.

For example the standard of living of people living in an inflated economy will be suppressed and this is because working and living in an inflated economy is detrimental to savings and expenditure. When people are spending more and getting less and lesser, it is affecting the quantity of goods and services they can afford. This means that when people have to pay more for the same unit of commodity overtime, they percentage of money they'll allocateto some other need will decrease and not only that, their standard of living will decrease.

In contrast, *[I defined quality of life here as the satisfaction and fulfilment](https://hive.blog/hive-167922/@josediccus/personal-finance-a-dive-into-quality-of-life)* it can further extend to the balance of time required by a person to take care of the non-financial aspect of their lives. When a person's life is balanced in all ramifications, they're achieving happiness from their job, their society, their families and attaining a healthy psychological and biological wellness, they're said to have achieved quality of life.

 This is exactly what proves that quality of life is attached to things that aren't fungible, it is totally dependent on people in other for it's meaning to be comprehensive and definitive. The whole point is to ascertain that standard of living is measurable while quality of life isn't. We used to quantify money, wealth and materialism as something that should primarily increase our quality of life, but this isn't true, irrespective of the that we're always thinking that the level of money we make Increases our quality of life.

I can categorically say that, while quality of life can actually spell or denote the degree to standard of living, it's often erroneous to say that standard of living can actually cause or bring about quality of live. The happiness we derive from the resources or things we own irrespective of how little or huge they are is an aspect of quality of life. This is why quality of life can typically tap into the sociocultural aspects of different human societies to find it's meaning.

Take a look at the world, states all over the world are interested in standard of living because it's something tangible that can be used in measuring the GDP of a country. However, a population can have high standard of living and still have poor quality of life vice versa. This is because quality of life is a non-monetary aspect that isn't totally derived from money. It's hard for you to see a state that measures quality of life and this is because it's not an economic concept.

#### Money & The Misconceptions to Quality Of Life

<hr>

The world is characterized by competition. People are chasing wealth as the ultimate recipe for happiness and satisfaction but sometimes the conditions that are in place to make all these possible are often lethal to one's life. Presumably, it's only wealthy people that can tell you that money doesn't guarantee happiness and this is because they've actually been there. Quality of life is what gives essence to Standard of living and this post is to basically educate people that one might be leading a high standard of living, but their quality of life is poor.

 I have a cousin who is very rich, but hardly sleeps, he's made a lot of money but can attest to the fact that he's living a poor quality of life. Nevertheless, the living conditions in Nigeria and the economic situation of the state is what gives rise to poor quality of life. Some people choose to increase their standard of living simply because money is important in leading a standard life with exposure to the right amenities to aid good living. However, in your quest to raise your standard of living it's essential to consider one's quality of life, because these are aspects that are not visible but instrumental to how **"well"** and not how **"good"** the life of a person can be
