I haven't always fancied black and white images and this is because I believe that it limits the expressive tendencies of a picture. For me, photography creates a pictorial expression that leaves an internal and unique impression. This means that different people would have different Interpretations or unique assessments of what a picture portrays. However, there's what I call **universal concurrence** This means a general agreement to the feeling that a picture generally conveys. For example, a lot of people have the same qualities to measure aesthetics. This means that sometimes we all have a general definition of what's **picturesque** or **grotesque**. This is peculiar. But are also situations where we cannot simply paint a vivid picture of our reaction towards something we've seen. There are times, some things which aren't too pleasing might be oddly satisfying, but gross for someone else. These are the distinctive and generalized ways we tend to see things. Back to photography, Black and white 🤍 images create a different aesthetical impression even though they can be deliberately limiting to a particular extent. For example, one cannot express the warmness of the sun with a black and white image and that's because the vividness of the colors is what creates that impression, but sometimes, an **old rusty newspaper dated 1976** lying on the floor might just need that black and white tint to portray that agedness or antiquity. Most black and white images are used to express antiquity, for example, buildings across the road with stunning engineering might look good in black and white, but modern-day photography has proven that these types of pictures can be more. I feel that Black and white images create a different feel. In the edit options of my Samsung A72, there's the option to change the background of a picture to black and white while keeping the main subject of the image in focus. This can only happen when you're using portrait shots. This is because portrait shots blur out the background, this background can give extra focus to the image that's in-depth by further referring to the image by taking the subject out of depth in a more colorful manner. The effect of black and white comes differently. This isn't the same as the scenarios I've created. I Iove black and white, but then, the image in focus would need to be sharp because it's already lacking the complement that those extra colors that's been taken away always bring. ### Before & After Edit MONO So today, I decided to show you my black and white series. These are some of the best shots I've taken in these past few weeks and while I naturally captured some with the *MONO effect*, I had to do an after-edit to change the rest of them to black and white. I don't know how these shots make you feel, I am not a fan of black and white images and this is because I am a sucker for colors. However, this kind of photography isn't meant to use colors to create an appeal or an endearment. I feel it creates a different kind of appeal and this is distinctive for everyone. I cannot say I've seen people who wholly love black and white photography, I just feel that it's the creativity and vastness of photography that creates the kinds of aesthetic that monochrome lovers are used to. What do you think of these shots with all sincerity? --- For the best experience view this post on [Liketu](https://liketu.com/@josediccus/what-kind-of-aesthetical-effect-does-black-and-white-pictures-create)
