Music has always been part of human life. Right from time music has always been part of people culture and time in history have made music. The way we listen and enjoy music today is very different from how people did in the past. We now live in a digital world, where almost everything happens at the pam of our hands. In the old days, music was something you mostly experienced live. That's is, If you wanted to listen and enjoy music, you will have to go to a concert gathering, an event, or a live band performance. People will have to gather at a particular place to listen to musicians play instruments and sing. There was nothing like the internet, no phones or computers. You either heard the music live or you didn’t hear it at all. No recording instruments and can store music for you to come back and listen to it later.

But as time goes by people began recording music using old tools like gramophones, cassette tapes, and even vinyl records. These recording instrument were big and somehow fragile, and you needed a special player to use those tools. You might have to go and buy them because they were not available for free.

As technology grew overtime, the CDs (compact discs) came into use. But still, you had to buy the CD, keep it safe, and carry it with you if you wanted to listen to music somewhere else.

In that time, if you wanted to make music as an artist, you had to go to a professional recording studio. Studio at that time was expensive, and only artists with money or artists record label deals could afford it. So making music was not for everyone. If you were an unknown artist and have no money or not on record label deals, it was almost impossible to record a song.

One thing again is that to promote your music, you needed radio stations or TV shows. Getting a song on the radio was also a big deal. And there are times the radio station might not play the song, so most people would never hear it. That was the world of music before the digital era when the internet took over.

Now In the digital age, with the coming of internet, everything has changed. The internet has helped music travel across borders and sores of different countries. The digital age has made music more open to everyone irrespective of who you are, whether rich or poor and even easier and more cheaper to record a song. In this digital age, you don’t need a cassette, a CD, or even a radio. All you need is your phone and a good internet connection. You are good to go.

With the availability of many music apps like YouTube, Spotify, Boomplay, Audiomack, Apple Music and other music apps, you can listen to any song you want at any time. You don’t have to go to a store to buy the music you want, just search for a song in any of the music apps. That’s it, you can listen and enjoy music.

You can also stream music instead of downloading it. You can listen to the song directly from the internet without saving it to your phone.

In the digital age, anyone can make music. You don’t need millions of naira or dollars to go to a big studio. There are free, easy and cheap apps that allow people to record songs at home. With a good phone, a small microphone, and the basic knowledge of music, you can record a song, edit it and produce music by yourself.

The digital age has also made music more available and accessible and has given chances to people who could never afford studio time in the past. Also, artists now promote their music on social media. All they have to do is post their songs after producing it on any of the social media handles like TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, or X. If people like your music, they will share it.

Making music used to be something only a few people could do during the non digital age. Now, almost anyone can try. Even children now are learning how to make beats on their phones. The digital tools are easy to use, and you can take tutorials for free online.
Even the sound of music has changed. In the non-digital age, most songs were recorded using real instruments like drums, guitars, and keyboards.

Today, many songs are made with digital beats and sounds using computers. Some songs don’t even use any real instruments at all. The digital age has really change the music world.
