TIME'S PAST (An Original Steemit Novel - Part 4)

It was the dark of night, and Terrance Beckett was walking home from his university. He saw a shimmering green light flash across the sky. He got an idea, one that he would not have come up with without this green light.

This was not good. I had no idea what the different in the timeline, or how I could do anything now to fix it. But maybe, just maybe, I could figure out what changed. "Computer," I said, "Run a comparison matrix between current ship logs and the backup in electron storage. What changed in the timeline?"

"There appears to be a lot of new information about time travel," the computer responded. "It appears that whatever the Dal'Orn did, it sparked knowledge that led to the invention of time travel."

"Run a diagnostic scan, and see if you can tell me what exactly the Dal'Orn did," I anxiously replied, but with the newfound hope of using the time travel capabilities in this timeline to return to the present.

"Based on the freely available information, it appears that someone by the name of Terrance Beckett has invented time travel. In the articles that I have scanned, some say that he saw a green light flash across the sky, which is how he got the idea. In running a cross-comparison analysis, it appears that the warp drive of the Dal'Orn could generate such a light if their ship is in close proximity to a planet." This is not good. The Dal'Orn have already made it to earth, and have been successfully able to change the timeline. I knew I had to do something, but the Dal'Orn could be a long way off. Who knows, maybe I could catch them though.

"Set a course to Earth, maximum speed." I shouted, anxiously awaiting the engines of my escape pod to start up again.

"Set a course to Earth, maximum speed." I shouted. Didn't I just say that?

"Computer! Analysis!" I said as quickly as possible, while my computer was turning on the engines. I was not well versed in temporal mechanics, but whatever just happened was not supposed to happen.

"According to the temporal anomaly database, what has just happened in called a timeline splice. It appears that the timeline was split in two. However, it appears that it has rejoined itself now. However, such an event occurring signifies that an action has been taken that was not part of the original timeline, not just a thought."

This was really bad. Now, I knew for sure, the timeline had been completely altered. Someone had done something because of the Dal'Orn, and now, it was up to me to stop them from finishing that. "Computer," I asked. "What would eliminating Terrance Beckett, in this current state, have done to the original timeline?"

"It would be catastrophic to all spaceships. Terrance Beckett, in the original timeline, grew up to invent many safety protocols and fallbacks for the warp drive. Without him, there would be approximately 73 warp core breaches that would have occurred. One of the would have possible involved one of your great-grandparents. Current action of termination is not advised, as it may result in a paradox of you never being born in the first place, which could destabilize all temporal anomalies ever created."

There was nothing I could do about Terrance Beckett, but I still had to get to Earth and see if I could trace the warp signatures of the Dal'Orn to see where they went. I tried to relax, but my mind was on edge. Suddenly, I felt the escape pod stop moving, and all of a sudden the stars stopped whizzing by as well. "Computer. Report!" I shouted, afraid for my life for what happened.

"It appears that we are stuck inside some plasmoid entity. We are being drawn at a very fast warp at a direction sideways from earth. There is no way I can currently compensate."
