# The YouTube Crypto Purge gave Steem some much appreciated free advertising Yes some of the advertising wasn't 100% accurate, as in that we have a legitimate decentralized, censorship-free alternative to YouTube. We don't technically have that yet, though we are close with both 3speak and Dtube. Steemit and Steem still offer a decentralized alternative to traditional social media that exists currently. Which is more or less the point. Yes, those YouTubers that were looking solely for a decentralized, censorship resistant video content platform to replace YouTube wouldn't find exactly that on steem, though 3Speak comes close. Instead they will find an entire social media experience. One that will start to be fully realized in the coming months as communities and SMTs are rolled out. # It won't just be YouTubers that are affected and impacted by this... Influencers across the web that are relying on centralized 3rd parties for their livelihood will start really understanding the value of owning your content. Think places like Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc... That will be how steem really benefits from this movement, once they start looking for new homes as well. This thing with YouTube was just the starting point, all it did was just get the snowball rolling. Over time that snowball will keep building and building as it rolls along. Eventually reaching a tipping point. The more times steemit and or steem wins polls like the one above, the more likely we are to see steem written about in future articles on Cointelegraph or other crypto news outlets...
