Back in the days when I was still a fine art student this was one of the paintings I did back then, it’s so far from the style I have now though,

my classmates and I were given a project to create a painting that involves art theories and at the same time a painting to present in the art competition held by Metrobank in the Philippines.

Part of the requirements is to show the work in progress and yourself painting it as proof that it is your artwork.

I use oil as my medium at this time, because oil painting is easy compared to acrylic,

Our caretaker has a son, I asked if it’s okay to make him as a reference in my painting and she was okay with it, i told the kid to pose like he was reaching for something and took a picture of him, he was obedient and i gave him a snack after.

first process is to sketch the figure first and do an underpaint after. 

Underpainting is optional but we were taught in order to create a realistic color we need to follow such process.

added some color to finish it’s landscape and painted the child reaching the paper

<strong>Why child? -</strong> i just thought a young kid still get to have a lot of choices which path to take while growing

<strong>Why paper?</strong> - you write your own life whatever you want it to be

<strong>Why two roads?</strong> - just a representation of lifes decision and an inspiration of the road not taken by robert frost poem (if you find it so different from the poem please put in mind art is open for interpretation and this is how i see it in my own interpretation)

<strong>Art theory</strong> I choose hermeneutics the study of interpretation, semiotic the study of symbol and psycho analysis studies of the unconscious mind.

For me life is all about choices and we always decide which one to take, and after choosing we sometimes wonder what would it be like if we took the other path in our life would it make a huge difference with the life we have now?
