As Christians, the desire to do God’s will is a sign that the Holy Spirit is working within us. However, we often find ourselves struggling with sin and doing the very things we hate. The Apostle Paul captured this struggle in

>Romans 7:19: “For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do this I keep on doing.”

This shows that even those deeply committed to God can battle with sinful habits. The first step to overcoming this is recognizing our weakness and turning fully to God for help through prayer, studying the Word, and surrendering daily to His Spirit.

God’s will is that we live holy and pleasing lives, but this cannot be done by human strength alone.

>Philippians 2:13 reminds us that “It is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.”

This means we must allow Him to change our hearts and renew our minds. We must also flee from things that lead us into sin, be accountable to other believers, and feed our spirits with the truth of God’s Word. Little by little, through God’s grace, our desires begin to change, and the bad habits lose their grip. It’s not about being perfect instantly, but about staying close to the One who can make us new.
