Привіт всім у спільноті.

Наводила лад у своєму складському приміщенні і випадково наткнулася на “Дідуха”. Стоїть він тут ще з доковідних часів, коли учні влаштовували Різдвяні святкування. Пам’ятаю, що одного року у нас була імпровізована світлиця в національному стилі. Центральне місце в ній займав саме Дідух.

She was tidying up her warehouse and accidentally came across "Didukh". It has been standing here since pre-Christian times, when students organized Christmas celebrations. I remember that one year we had an improvised light house in the national style. The central place in it was occupied by Didukh.

Зараз остаточно не визначено дату Різдва для України. Поки точаться дискусії. Але древніх традицій українців та  наших унікальних святкових символів ніхто не змінював. Вони, незалежно від встановленої дати святкування, існували з прадавніх часів та існують до цього часу. Знаєте, це дуже важливо пам’ятати про такі речі, адже це доказ нашої глибокої історії та національної ідентичності. І скільки б не існувало заборон при царській росії, при совкові, ми все ж зуміли зберегти пам’ять про своє походження та свою індивідуальність.

>Currently, the date of Christmas for Ukraine has not been determined. Discussions are ongoing. But no one has changed the ancient traditions of Ukrainians and our unique holiday symbols. They, regardless of the established date of celebration, have existed since ancient times and exist to this day. You know, it is very important to remember such things, because it is a proof of our deep history and national identity. And no matter how many prohibitions there were under tsarist russia, under the soviet union, we still managed to preserve the memory of our origin and our individuality.
Хочу взяти цього Дідуха, який досить таки добре зберігся, і поставити в центральному холі, поряд з новорічними декораціями. Адже недарма наші предки говорили: “Дідух до хати – біда з хати”.
Цей традиційний оберіг, який символізує язичницького бога Коляду, готувала з літа. Люди брали останній сніп з поля після збору урожаю та в’язали з нього Дідуха. Це міг бути овес, пшениця, жито, льон або все в купі. З цієї обрядової традиції бачимо, що наші пращурі дуже поважали землю, хліб, працю та свою родину. Дідух – це вмістилище предків. Його ще називали раєм. За повір’ям він повинен принести в хату мир, спокій та гарний  урожай наступного року.

This traditional charm, which symbolizes the pagan god Kolyada, has been prepared since the summer. People took the last sheaf from the field after harvesting and knitted Grandfather from it. It could be oats, wheat, rye, flax, or everything in the pile. From this ceremonial tradition, we can see that our ancestors had great respect for the land, bread, work and their family. Didukh is a repository of ancestors. It was also called paradise. According to belief, he should bring peace, tranquility and a good harvest to the house next year.

Ставили Дідух по діагоналі до печі, під образами (іконами). В різних куточках нашої країни по різному прикрашали його. Прибирали ж після святок. В основному після Водохреща – 19 січня. Знаю, що існувала традиція залазити дітям під цей сніп та мукати, бекати, квоктати. Таким чином, вважалося, що господарство буде гарно вестися та поповниться худобою і птицею. 

>Didukh was placed diagonally to the stove, under images (icons). It was decorated in different ways in different parts of our country. They cleaned up after the holidays. Mainly after Epiphany - January 19. I know that there was a tradition for children to climb under this sheaf and moan, babble, quack. Thus, it was believed that the economy would be well managed and replenished with livestock and poultry.

Навіщо ж спалювали Дідух? Наші предки вірили, що душі померлих родичів, які містилися в ньому під час всіх свят, повернуться до раю. Вогонь необхідний їм, щоб освітлити і зігріти шлях. Але це вже пізніше повір’я. Насправді ж, початковим значенням згорання Дідуха було свого роду, як жертвопринесення снопка, який символізував людину. Знаємо, що у дохристиянські часи деякі язичницькі обряди були досить моторошні. 

>Why did they burn Didukh? Our ancestors believed that the souls of deceased relatives, who were contained in it during all holidays, would return to heaven. They need fire to light and warm the way. But this is a later belief. In fact, the original meaning of the burning of Didukh was kind of like the sacrifice of a sheaf that symbolized a person. We know that in pre-Christian times, some pagan rites were quite creepy.

Досить багато інформації про Дідуха мені розповіла бабуся. Все життя вона вважали покуття – святим місцем і гримала на мене, щоб не позіхала в той бік чи не говорила голосно біля цього місця. Казала, щоб потягалася на грубу, “щоб була здоровою, як та груба”. Побажання, я вам скажу, таке собі…😅 Та це так хвилююче, дізнаватися, що велику кількість традицій дізналася не з книги, а з перших джерел, від людини, яка виросла на цьому, з вірою в усі обряди та прикмети. 
>My grandmother told me quite a lot of information about Didukh. All her life she considered penitence a holy place and scolded me not to yawn in that direction or speak loudly near this place. She told me to reach for the rough one, "so that I would be healthy, like the rough one." Wishes, I'll tell you, are so-so...😅 But it's so exciting to learn that a large number of traditions was learned not from a book, but from the first sources, from a person who grew up on it, with faith in all rituals and omens.
