At what point does one's luck run dry? A person who chooses to live  opposite the laws of the land usually continues to push his like until there is nothing else to do or nowhere else to run. Running and hiding from past misdeeds is tiring. Always wondering when you'll be captured would seem to be unsettling and unable to experience a fulfilling life. I share a microfiction story for the prompt ***"hundreds of twinkling lights"*** that's told in exactly 50 words. The challenge was created by @felt.buzz.

Hundreds of twinkling lights adorned the stage. 

Canvassing the crowd, Evan's eyes fixed on a gentleman waving papers while pointing at him.

Suddenly, the man's coat opened, flashing a silver badge. 

Evan's prior murderous crimes materialized. 

The chorus stepped forward. 

Evan stepped back. Accolades were useless where he was headed.
