Finding Calm: My Habits For Inner Peace

In today's world, where things are more challenging than they've ever been, it's sometimes difficult to keep your cool and not lose your mind, let alone maintain inner peace. Thinking about the economy of the country alone can drain your energy and steal your peace of mind, making you feel anxious and worried. In my country, the prices of goods and services are higher than they've ever been. Now, imagine a middle-class parent with five children struggling to make ends meet. How do you expect them to provide for all five children in today's economy? Other factors like marital problems, health issues, and even the complexities of life itself can also snatch our inner peace. For day 5, INLEO prompts ask us to discuss inner peace. What are your habits to reach inner peace? 

When it comes to achieving inner peace, one of the most important habits for me is getting a sound and nice sleep. Sleeping works like magic for me. I once had a conversation with a friend who asked how often I cry. How often do I cry? I tried to think about the last time I cried, but nothing came to my mind. My friend was confused. I’m sure they had a question to ask but decided to keep it to themselves. “How can you not cry? Are you not human?” Well, the truth is that I have experienced difficult situations that could have made me cry, but not a single tear dropped from my eyes. Most times, when these things happen, I withdraw to my little corner, think and sleep. God, who designed sleep is truly thoughtful and artistic. It is like a button that makes you forget about your worries for some time. For me, I feel way better when I wake up from a good sleep, regardless of what happened before the sleep. 

About 2 years ago- my second year as a university student. I gathered enough money to buy a television. The first day I bought it, my friends and I played games from 9 am to 12 pm- until the generator turned off. Around 3pm, we turned on the generator again. I noticed the generator was slightly titled, so I tried to adjust it. Unfortunately, I pulled it too hard and the TV fell and broke. I turned it on and noticed that the screen was broken. It was just my roommate and I in the room at the time. I had just got the TV and it was barely up to 12 hours and that happened. I was really sad- it was as if someone pierced my heart. After reality dawned on me that the television was really broken, I stood up, got on the bed, and slept till night. Magically, I felt better like nothing ever happened. 

Another habit that helps me achieve inner peace is taking a stroll and admiring nature. Taking an evening stroll when the weather is nice- with the breeze gently blowing from left to right and the trees are dancing softly, is one of the most wonderful feelings you can experience. Have you ever tried taking a walk right after it rains? The soil sounds a bit different- and the smell of rain mixed with sand adds to the whole beauty. I enjoy taking long walks and talking to myself. I used to think talking to oneself was a normal thing to do until a friend told me they don’t do it. How do you come up with ideas? Why don’t you talk to yourself? I do it every time I take a walk, and it is one of the most beautiful and liberating experiences.

These are some of the habits that give me inner peace.
