<em>The outcry was fierce. Fiercer still for he was but the only one shouting, demanding to be heard in a sea of silence, demanding for the attention that he desperately sought yet would never be received.</em>


<em>He, the lone voice shouting in an empty world, an isolated world, a world that long ago forgot to listen and no longer understood what it was to hear or to be heard.</em>


<em>Silent winds swept through muted crowds, rustled their hairs and the gentle grasses they stood upon, and all alone was the faint voice of this one man. Faint as though it were yelled from afar yet yelled from nearby. </em>


<em>It was futile. </em>


<em>Distance was both relative and subjective and he, for one, stood where he had always stood.</em>


<em>Alone.</em>


<em>His muted voice reverberated around him, so he felt, so he heard, but no one else did, no one else noticed, no one else cared.</em>


<em>His voice was his own, to his own ear, to his own sense of self, but what was the point when no one else could speak.</em>


<em>Had he truly cried out or had he imagined it? He did not even know anymore.</em>


<em>All that he knew was that his outcry was his, and his alone.</em>

<em>And that he had tried.</em>

Hello! It's Day 884 of @mariannewest's five-minute #freewrite challenge. The prompt for today is -- *outcry* -- and this depressing thing is what I came up with before the eggtimer website beeped at me.

It reminds me of one of my first ever freewrites: <a href="https://peakd.com/freewrite/@kaelci/embraced-by-the-stars-a-5-minute-freewrite">Embraced by the Stars</a>.

Despite the "freewrite" nature of this challenge, I usually try to impose some structure upon myself... and this particular result is what happens when I throw structure out the window and just follow my mind. 🙂
