World of Warcraft ~ Starting anew in TBC Classic

https://kaelci.games/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/WOWheaderstartinganew.png

It's that time again! That time when I get the urge to dive into World of Warcraft for an indeterminate period of time. It could be a phase that lasts a mere day, or it could be something with a little more longevity — who knows!? What I do know is that Lich King Classic is on the way and I wouldn't mind having an established character ready to send over to the new expansion servers.

But first, I must slog through Burning Crusade. Again.

Well, it's not so much that it's a slog — okay, it is — but because it's not retail World of Warcraft, I don't really have any attachment to these characters. In my WoW account I have hundreds of mounts and pets and toys and achievements. Years of progress. In this, I have nothing. It's just a character.

Wrath of the Lich King though, that was the expansion I was first introduced to the game. I personally feel as though that was the height of the game and I came in at just the right time, and it appears that a lot of people agree with that assessment. So I'm looking forward to going through that again. I just need to be ready for it.

One person in my friend group has basically been living in Classic Burning Crusade so there was already an established guild and whatnot to join on the server. And my partner and I got 50 gold and four netherweave bags each! Score! A fantastic start to the game. That inventory space especially I would've been happy with, but future mount-training costs on top? Fantastic.

This server is actually a somewhat active one too. Last time we dabbled in Burning Crusade, we were on a very low population server where the people in my friend's guild were literally the only active people on the entire server. It's still a crappy PVP server, but at least there are people on it so the Auction House is alive and thriving and gives me incentive to play to my style: farm all the things.

Being a PVP server, I made a Rogue. I normally play Warriors or Priests, but in this instance I'd prefer the stealth and crowd control of a Rogue. PVP annoys me. Not when it's amongst people of the same level, but in my experience people of the same level have no interest in PVP. The only PVP I've ever experienced, except in battlegrounds, is when arse-faces who are max level decide to annoy lower levels.

I remember making a warrior on one of the first lot of Classic servers and I reached about level 34. I was levelling in Arathi Basin at the time when some max level rogue wouldn't leave me (or anyone else) alone. They were being whinged about massively in the general chat. Finally I closed the game and reopened it a few hours later. He was still there! Gave up for the day, tried again the next. People were still bitching about him; he was still in the Basin hassling people. Like, get a life? So I just stopped playing.

Interest? Eradicated.

At the moment we're just going through the Barrens For Daaaaaays slog.

But then I realised last night that one of the things I enjoy about WoW is also one of the things I enjoy about things like Minecraft. That slog... because I've done it so many times, I now treat it as a phasing-out chill-out motion so it's relaxing. Just like mindlessly mining away in Minecraft, which is also a phase-out activity. When I first played it was the new experience that caught me... now it's the phase-out experience.

I've decided my rogue shall be a Leatherworker for the ease in being able to create my own armour, and a Skinner to gather the leather and fur required for Leatherworking.

I've also picked up Cooking, Fishing, and First Aid. My partner's doing Herbing and Alchemy, so my Fishing will come in handy for his Alchemy too, plus, I just enjoy it. Another phase-out activity!

At the moment I'm enjoying my time in Classic TBC, plus the rest of our friend group started just a couple of weeks ago too so it's nice having everyone all online in the one spot. Now to see how long it takes to make it through, ready for when the Lich King comes. :D
