I'm going to explain every step in the following. But first of all – you have to be patient with your avocado. It takes about 3 months until you just can put your avocado seed into the soil. After some more weeks, it will grow its first leaves.

So, how to prepare it:

1. Open the avocado carefully, make sure you don't damage the pit. Seperate the pit from its fruit flesh.
![katjahanzl-1-3.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmeq5c2DcmSsJAh6DCR7MwmjX7UKEdYjqMQqtsdUF5CZsN/katjahanzl-1-3.jpg)

2. Clean the pit.
![katjahanzl-1-5.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmZnE2Vi2t54R9YWvUyrGtDNYRzwpPKp1Ne8j5YNWKftpU/katjahanzl-1-5.jpg)

3. Peel the thin skin, very carefully...
![katjahanzl-1-6.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmQ7GPme8YKbKAXgZjLTkUdUp7er1Au9fMF2RaLCdE6tcm/katjahanzl-1-6.jpg)

...until its fully naked.
![katjahanzl-1-7.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmb53FjoEgmRyfkTub1tnRybvroBnj2rYpCmWUKttJpWz2/katjahanzl-1-7.jpg)

4. Now grab yourself a glass of water and three stripes of wire (alternative you can use spits of wood as well).
![katjahanzl-1-8.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmPJkm4qZ9KHiRVn46gF6mH5vtMtYGbim1WjzkNwLX7Vrx/katjahanzl-1-8.jpg)

5. Press the three wire stripes into the sides of the avocado - even if it feels a bit bad.
![katjahanzl-1-2.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmbwtZtNR8YwtyWKcdoaxn3xYd3kg8TThzN61SB8GkbFSe/katjahanzl-1-2.jpg)

6. Let's swim! Put the avocado in a position that is half in the water and half in the air. Clear water every 1-2 days
https://steemitimages.com/DQme9WHi6ErmGxguctWzU72m9BXLneE6HZx3Hxx9xif9rkA/katjahanzl-1-9.jpg

Now we are half way done. Choose a location that is very sunny and additionally if its possible use a greenhouse. As I said, it will take some month until it splits and grows its root. You are free to plant the pit into soil when the root is about 3 cm. Don't forget to change the water often (every 1-2 days) otherwise it can get scruffy.
