You do not have to dress in rags to be cheap. There are many alternatives that people overlook. I am able to dress very nicely on a tight budget. Saving money is sometimes about making yourself “feel” spoiled.

- Buy your clothes used. There are stores like Savers or Ross, and you can also find a consignment shop.
- You can buy cheap used clothes at a consignment shop. Try the online store Thred Up or Tradesy.
- Look at reviews and check quality before buying. Some clothes wear out after just a couple uses. Some of those clothes have a high price tag too.
- Hang dry! Save on your electricity bill and your clothes will last longer because the dryer is hard on your clothes.
- Wash clothes in cold water on gentle cycle.
- Learn basic sewing skills so you can make a simple patch, put on your buttons when they fall off, shorten pants that are too long or even add on to clothes. It will let you keep your clothes much longer.

- Buy clothes that mix well together so you can make multiple outfits out of just a few items.
- Accessorize! Usually, cheap accessories are a nice touch to your clothes. You can mix it up without the high price tag.
- Try buying used from eBay. I usually get high-quality bras that are gently used, and it saves me a ton of money, but I still feel like I have nice things to wear.
- Find a family member or friend who is the same size as you and trade clothes often.
- Re-dye your clothes if necessary. There is store bought dyes in every color. If your clothes fade or start to look bad, spend a couple of bucks on dye and give life back to your clothes. Sometimes when my clothes get a bad stain that I cannot remove, I will buy a dye that matches the color of the stain and dye my whole piece of clothing that color! Hah.

You don't have to go through this much trouble to save money if you don't want to. But I found that one helpful practice is to DE CLUTTER your clothes, get just enough to get by. The average American has whole month of clothes they can wear, With no repeats.

## That Is clearly overdoing it! ##
It's important to have enough clothes, But if you declutter then ONLY buy a new shirt, or pants when you have to, You could get a way with spending a little bit more. You will still save money overall because you'll never own stuff you won't use, And old clothes won't be forgotten.
