0.000 HBDThe Law - Everyone is breaking it. Why can't we do the same?
People say laws are meant to be broken and it sounds cool to hear that especially when it's coming from someone you rate high. Nonetheless, that person with all the high ratings you have for him/her is free to have an opinion, but never make the mistake of thinking that their opinion will always be right. Essentially, the law is there to establish a standard that will guide the way of life of people within any given society. The presence of a functional law will always be a plus to the free flow of society. Sadly, the topic of a functional law is a different conversation because the reality we are facing - and I'm never going to feign ignorance of this reality - has shown that lawlessness is eating deep into different aspects of life. Imagine a situation where those we see as lawmakers, executors of the law, interpreters of the law or punishers of offenders are the hotbed of law abuse and breaking of laws. ###### Isn't this one of the reasons why many schools of thought believe that laws are meant to be broken? Petty law breakers in this modern society go about breaking laws and they feel no remorse about it because they see their action as a pattern that involves feeding off the scraps of what is becoming normal. They say; > *Everyone is doing it. Why can't we do the same?* Wherever you are reading this from, I'm sure you've heard that line before. It is a school of thought that is right on several levels, but I don't necessarily agree with that logic. - Do we all have to join the chorus? - Must we all give up on doing the right thing? - What about the ripple effect of breaking laws? Let's take traffic laws as an example. Too many times, people lose their life or get life-threatening injuries as road users because of someone behind the wheels who failed to obey traffic laws. This can go many ways because even a traffic law breaker is also in danger of losing his/her life. There may be positives attached to breaking laws, but for every positive, there can be multiple negative effects of that singular action. Weigh the odds in everything you are doing and decide what's best for the world you want to see tomorrow.
