## As headnote

Starting from the smell and taste that excite when mixed into the food, over time, certain parts (leaves, seeds, roots, stems, bark) of certain plants so desirable until it became a spice that occupies a normative place in culture of a society. Not only that, the spice further solidifies itself in human culture after it is realized that it also provides many health benefits, and not just a flavor. Perhaps, that's how the path is crossed by spices to become an integral part of the human culture.

## Henceforward

Spices are defined as flavorful or strongly flavored plant parts used in small quantities in food as preservatives, dyes or flavorings in cooking.

Spices have a long history in human civilization and about that, can be read in full [here](http://www.mccormickscienceinstitute.com/resources/history-of-spices).

There are dozens of spices and herbs that until the day are still traded in the world. To know one by one spices and traded herbs can be seen [here](https://www.worldspice.com/spices).

## Substance

The substance of this post is to show only a few sides of the processing and supply of spices in markets in Aceh. To assist housewives in providing cooking for the family, in the market there are shops providing spices ready to be mixed in cooking. A customer simply tells them what kind of cooking and how much to cook, then the spice seller will instantly mix all kinds of liquid and dry spices with the right quantity. Practical, cheap and tasty are the good things that are offered and provided by stores selling spices for cooking.

Here are the pictures I took in a spice shop in Aceh. There is a variety of spices from finely ground ingredients seen here like chili, onion, garlic, coconut roast, turmeric and others ... or in the form of seeds, leaves and roots .. for one cuisine there dozens of different types of spices are mixed ... even the Acehnese can spice up a dish with 44 kinds of spices ... What many people already know is that Aceh people love the spicy taste in their food ... It is the secret of their strength.

_(In fact, this is a grated coconut, roasted, then ground until smooth and oily. The Acehnese named it "Ue Neuleu", the most perfect natural flavoring for food, especially for meat and fish.)_

## Final Word

Spice is a matter of taste that can also tell about cultural character.
