Epithelial Cells Under a Microscope - Saliva Test
This is a microscope recording of epithelial cells from a saliva sample. Recorded under a phase contrast microscope at about 1000-1500x magnification.
The Buccal Epithelial cells come from the cheek lining inside the mouth. These cells have a nucleus and contain your DNA!
The nucleus is seen as a smaller dark oval circle inside the cells.
When performing a DNA / ancestry test with saliva, laboratories use these cells to extract the DNA information.
