One of the things we struggle with is the area of forgiveness. Before Jesus came, during the time of Moses people were allowed to return violence when being offended. That was why the saying an eye for an eye emerge. It seemed like the right thing to do as at that time–hurting those who hurt us. Some of us still have that mentality even up till today.

But when Jesus came to earth, He brought in another perspective. Instead of returning violence for violence, Christ told us to turn to other cheek when we are being striked on one of them. Christ is trying to tell us that we should bear nothing against each other.

Jesus taught us about forgiveness in

>Matthew 18:21-22;
21.Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?”
22.Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times but seventy-seven times.

There's no manner of offense or number of times being offended that should hold us back from forgiving. Some people get offended by someone once and that's enough for us to take it to heart. But here, Christ says we should be able to forgive up to 77 times.

>Luke 23:34: Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.

Forgiveness should be our nature as Christians. We should learn to forgive no matter what. This is because this is what Christ would want us to do.
