### Be Kind to Yourself
#

When I went to the clinic the other day, I was invited into a small room I had never entered before. That room was the waiting area for the clinician's office, where I was to have my medical exam. I sometimes like small, cozy rooms.

On my right side, next to the door, a sign on the wall said, "Be Kind to Yourself." I thought about this message for a while until the clinician came back.

In life, we often hear phrases like "Be kind to others," but we don't really learn how to be kind to ourselves. I also remembered an old song called "Hito ni Yasashiku" by THE BLUE HEARTS from the 80s. I liked the band when I was young, and their lyrics as well.

How can I be kind to myself? Hmm... I imagine it means taking care of my health as steadily as I can, trying not to blame myself too much, and accepting myself as much as possible. All of these are not so easy, but I would like to try.

I have a medical checkup this month. I don’t like visiting the hospital, but I shouldn’t ignore my condition. Hopefully, there’s nothing too serious. My mother is also dealing with complex medical issues these days. I hope her condition will stay stable as well.

### 自分にやさしく
#

先日クリニックを訪れたとき、検査室に入る前に小さな待合室に通されました。その部屋は診察前に準備をするような場所で、かなり小さいサイズでした。そういった小さくて心地よい場所に自分の身を置くことが好きです。

ふと見ると、右側のドアの横の壁に「自分にやさしく」と書いてあるメッセージアートがかかっていました。看護師さんが戻って来るまで、自分を思いやるということについてしばらく考えていました。

「人にやさしく」というフレーズはよく人生で聞く言葉ですね。ところが、自分にやさしくすることについてはおざなりになりがちです。８０年代にリリースされたブルーハーツの「人にやさしく」の歌詞を思い出していました。昔、好きだったバンドで、歌詞も良かったです。

自分に親切にするとは？ うーん…。そうですね、おそらくできるだけ健康に気を遣うとか、自分を必要以上に責めるのを控えるとか、自己肯定をできる限りするとかでしょうか。どれもなかなか簡単にできることではないなと思いますが、できるだけそうしたいなとは思います。

今月はいくつか検査があります。病院に行くのは好きではないのですが、仕方がありません。結果がなんでもないことを望みます。最近、母の健康状態もいろいろと複雑に織り混ざっていて、病院通いが続いているようです。じきに状態が落ち着くのを願っています。
