The Hive at Kew Gardens, London is an aluminium construction that is 17 metres tall and contains 1000 LEDs plus numerous speakers. ”The lights you see and the sounds you hear inside The Hive are triggered by bee activity in a real beehive at Kew.” As activity changes within the beehive (that’s located somewhere within Kew gardens), so those changes are immediately conveyed to the Hive. “The intensity of the sounds and light change constantly, echoing that of the real beehive.” I was there last month and it really is a fascinating structure but what is much more amazing is knowing that the continuous changes in light and sound are due to the changes in the nearby beehive.
