We have another update and more insight on what's happening with R-Planet. R-Planet is a game on the WAX blockchain that has been around for quite some time. It's similar to Little Alchemy - you combine elements to discover new elements, except it's largely NFT based. In order to get elements, you need to stake NFTs to mine AETHER, which is the main token of the game. Up until December 31st, users could stake NFTs from 32 different collections to mine AETHER.

## Staking 2.0

You can check out my most recent post [It's Time to Rebalance on R-Planet](https://leofinance.io/@l337m45732/time-to-rebalance-on-r-planet-great-news)  where I talked about my potential strategy going forward. This was about 5 days ago when R-Planet officially announced the end of the initial staking pools. I wrote a couple months ago about the DAO that is being built and will be hopefully integrated soon. It seems we're getting a taste of that with the new staking system. The full details are available in the latest [R-Planet Medium post](https://rplanet.medium.com/21-r-partnering-projects-d016adf73112). Instead of the R-Planet team creating a list of staking Pools , the community will decide which 21 pools are able to mine AETHER. **We** will decide. In order to "vote" for a collection to be listed for AETHER mining, users can stake AETHER to the pool for it. The 21 pools will be based on the amount of AETHER staked in descending order. Each having less AETHER in the pools to mine.

I think this is going to start breathing some new life into R-Planet. AETHER now has use-case aside from buying elements. Now you can use your AETHER to vote on the pools that can mine it. This is how it should have been from the beginning in my opinion, but hey... What do I know? Not just any NFT collection can be voted in though, which is a good thing. Joe Blow that has shitloads of AETHER can't get a random shit NFT collection listed to farm AETHER. There is a whitelisting and application process with very specific requirements. One of those being an *active community*.

I think we can expect a few of the existing collections to stay based on their votes. They're automatically whitelisted so it's up to the voters. After the initial list is created, users will be able to stake AETHER and vote on which collections are their favorite. AETHER can be unstaked from a collection any time but is subject to a 30 day lockup. This prevents users from flipping their votes from one collection to the next. I guess it could still be done but this is a great deterrent. The list order will be based on total AETHER staked at any given point and will be recalculated regularly. Maybe twice per month?

The DevFund will have 25 billion AETHER to vote with but that honestly isn't very much. I think this is going to generate a lot of buzz around R-Planet and we could see a hard comeback in Q2 of this year. The new staking system is set to go live in Q1 and shortly thereafter, the launch of Conquest. The second phase of R-Planet that will turn it into a massive multiplayer online game. This is really what has me excited. Hopefully we see the full DAO integration and that RDAO airdrop as well. I'm ready to build my robot army and battle. Let's go!
