My wife, @arcticgypsy and I borrowed an ATV from out friend to take a little tour of the island today in an attempt to find a decent fishing spot. We ended up going out to the cabins along the Southwestern edge of the islands to check out there, since we constantly hear stories of people catching Arctic Char, a type of Salmon, out that way. We stopped at our friends cabin when we noticed that they were there and stayed there for a bit and chatted. We were told we came out at a bad time due to the terrain of the ocean in this area. So I took out the camera and started to take photos. The neighbour to our friend's cabin saw me taking photos of the rocks and called me over to come and check out the runoff stream beside his cabin. The fast flowing water has stripped the area down to the bedrock which is heavily fractured stone. I assume from the freeze/thaw cycle that allows water to get into the cracks, then it freezes and expands, fracturing the stone. It exposes many many wonderful fossils. I need to talk to a geologist sometime about identifying the time period of these life forms. Richard, the neighbour to our friend, has collected so many large, flat stones that the majority of his cabin is surrounded in fossils. He has a path out the front of his cabin that leads down to the ocean some 40 feet down that is paved in fossils. Most are extremely eroded to the point where they can barely be identified and don't photograph well, but I did find several exceptional specimens to photograph. I really like fossils, and there's nothing else up here to collect, so expect more photos of fossils in the future. At least for a few more months until the snow flies. --- All photos are my own, taken by myself. They are taken using a Nikon P900 and a Samsung S20.
