Miracle is not a strange word to me as I have witnessed miracles around me. But first, Dictionary.com defines a miracle as, > an extraordinary and welcome event that is not explicable by natural or scientific laws and is therefore attributed to a divine agency. Many find it hard to believe that miracles exist and when people talk about them, it's like they make up these stories. I used to be among that set of people. I would listen to testimonies in church or among friends and try to find an explanation for the inexplicable event they talk about. This unbelief ended when my mother travelled to buy some goods for her store and on her return, her bus was involved in a terrible accident. How she survived the incident, we cannot say. Ever since that day, I believed miracles exist and there's a Power beyond our human strength that makes these miracles possible. For me, that Power is God. _____ <center> **My Miracle** </center> ______ A terrifying incident happened to me after my one year of compulsory service. I had travelled to the federal capital territory to see my uncle at his invitation. Then I was making efforts to secure a good job so that I won't have to stay home for months or years hunting for a job. After this visit, my uncle took me to the park and I boarded a bus going to my hometown. About some hours into this journey, we arrived at Lokoja and some Nigerians know how dangerous the roads there can be. This time, it was not the road that was an issue but political controversy that threatened. We arrived at a traffic light right behind a brown Sienna car. I did not see anything amiss. All of a sudden, our driver opened the door and ran out of the vehicle. That was when I knew something was wrong. I saw two gunmen right in front of us holding very big, long guns while their fellow gunmen spread out around the road. They started to shoot into the air and people ran helter-skelter. <center> *Image: [Kony on Unsplash.com](https://unsplash.com/photos/z-pAfX7IYLU)* </center> There was a commotion on the road that day. Cars parked and drivers ran out and away. I froze because I had never witnessed anything like this before. Other passengers ran out of the vehicle I was travelling in while some laid down on the carpet. The gunmen shot sporadically that morning while another set of them set the Sienna car on fire. That was when I came to myself and realized I was in a danger zone. It occurred to me that I could die there and no one would know what happened. Thoughts of my mother and siblings passed through my mind and that was when I reacted. I could not breathe properly and panicked. I bent down, jumped out of the car and into the street beside the road, only to run into one of the gunmen. He looked angry and scary. I feared he would point the gun at me and shoot. I thought that was the end. There was an abandoned, old bus beside us. He eyed me from head to toe, pointed his gun at the bus and shouted, "Get inside!" I did immediately. That was how I was saved. Sadly, some people were caught in the crossfire and died. A young boy died as a result of a stray bullet. We did not resume our journey till the incident was handled by the Nigerian army and some policemen hours later. This extended the time I spent on the road but I did not mind. The incident was on TV the evening I got home. I saw that event as a miracle because I came face to face with killers, and could have been shot and died. But instead, the killer pointed me towards a hideout and I was saved. It was a miracle. An incident I will never forget. Do you believe in miracles? If not, you should. Thanks for reading my post.
