Since I started studying photography, I find everything fascinating. It is true that since I was a child I have had a fixation for observing everything around me, but now I contemplate and immediately find something "photographable".

The colors of the elements that I capture mentally, are there, being the closest to reality, something important in my photographic approach, so I had not worried about highlighting the black and white as a visual resource that changes not only the message of the image, but the product itself.

>

This limited vision I had has been changing since I started a course with Professor Geczain Tovar, a Venezuelan photographer of long trajectory who even won a National Geographic award in 2005.

In one of his classes, the professor screened the documentary The Salt of the Earth (2014), which is about the life and work of Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado, and there I discovered how it influenced my professor's work, where black and white stands out.

>

One of the phrases he said after the film, was that he prefers to take pictures without colors because we already see them in our daily lives, and he finds them boring. On the other hand, black and white allows us to get out of the usual to imagine and recreate reality from an elegant, melancholic and why not, cheerful aspect.

In my case, I found it boring because it limited my appreciation of reality as close as possible, not only because of the colors, but also because it changed the photograph completely to a result different from what my mind and eyes observe.

>

It seems to me that black and white is a resource like many others in the framework of communication, and using it is vital for what you want to convey. I have found that there are photos that look better in color and others do not, but it depends on many factors such as composition and context.

For example, if I see elements with harmonic colors that feed each other without altering the visual order, I would find it better to use them. However, beyond this, now just by having something in front of my camera, I start to see it in black and white because that's what the photograph itself asks me to do.

It has become instinctive, and the more I study photography, the more I will discover why. why.

>

The photographs are my own and use a Samsung WB1100F camera.

>
