After a few weeks of exchanging work for accommodation at the hostel in Ushuaia, I had already managed to see quite a few new places but as you know, there is always something more to see. As my working hours were in the afternoon, I took advantage of the mornings to go for a walk to places relatively close by, as if to take advantage of the good weather. The days were very long, so the daylight was already early, ready to take advantage of it. Looking at the map, I found a waterfall close by and perfect to go and see, <strong>and I could have gone in 20 minutes by car, but I like to walk 😃.</strong>

Como mi horario de trabajo era la tarde, aprovechaba las mañanas para ir a caminar a lugares relativamente cerca, como para aprovechar el buen clima. Los días eran muy largos, por lo que la luz del día ya estaba desde temprano, lista para aprovecharla. Mirando el mapa, encontré una cascada cerca y perfecta para ir a conocer, <strong>y podría haber ido en 20 minutos en auto, pero a mí lo que me gusta es caminar 😃.</strong>

On my first three-week visit to Ushuaia in December 2023 I did almost all the trekking and touristy things you can do here, thinking I would never come back. But fate did not want it that way and once again I was there in that beautiful city. Luckily, there were still many things to discover, and as I always like to see new places, my goal was to go for a walk to new places every time. One of them was the Nahiara Waterfall that I saw on the map, which was about 6 km from the hostel in a walk of an hour and a half 😃.

<blockquote>En mi primera visita de tres semanas en Ushuaia en diciembre 2023 hice casi todos los trekkings y las cosas turísticas que se pueden hacer acá, pensando en que nunca más volvería. Pero el destino no lo quiso así y una vez más estaba ahí en esa ciudad hermosa. Por suerte, aún quedaban muchas cosas por descubrir, y como siempre me gusta ver lugares nuevos, mi objetivo era ir a pasear a puntos nuevos cada vez. Uno de ellos era la Cascada Nahiara que vi en el mapa, que figuraba a unos 6 km del hostel en una caminata de una hora y media 😃.

This time and distance seemed right for the ride, so there I went. On the way I went along one of the main avenues of the city and in the middle I was able to enter a path through the woods. Finally, I reached the outskirts of the urban area, where I was already very close to the mountains. I could have reached this place by taxi or by bus, but I like the tranquillity of walking and listening to music in the meantime 😃.

En el camino fui por una de las avenidas principales de la ciudad y en el medio pude entrar a un sendero entre los bosques. Finalmente, llegué hasta las afueras de la zona urbana, en donde ya tenía muy cercas las montañas. Hasta este lugar podría haber llegado perfectamente en taxi o en colectivo, pero me gusta la tranquilidad que me genera caminar e ir escuchando música mientras tanto 😃.

The area of Ushuaia where the Nahiara Waterfall is located is the road to the Tierra del Fuego National Park. What many people do is to get here and hitchhike to the entrance, even I have done that with a friend during my first visit. But this time I would just hang around to see the waterfall while having a snack. Anyway, the area was nice and quiet, quite removed from the hustle and bustle of the city 😃.

Lo que hace mucha gente es llegar hasta acá y hacer "dedo" hasta la entrada, incluso yo he hecho eso con una amiga durante mi primera visita. Pero esta vez solo me quedaría por ahí para ver la cascada mientras tomaba un snack. De cualquier forma, la zona era linda y tranquila, bastante retirada del ruido del movimiento urbano 😃.

I don't know how I did it, but when I approached the path that led to the waterfall I kept going and never saw it. I saw a river and followed it, but the waterfall never appeared. I must have walked about half an hour into the forest and every time I heard the water falling further and further away, so I had to turn back, because according to what I had seen on the map, the waterfall was very close to the road. When I was coming out of the forest, I saw a small path that turned off to the right and finally there was the waterfall, with a sign. To this day I don't know how I missed it, but I was glad to have found it at last 😅.

<blockquote>No sé como hice, pero cuando me acerqué al sendero que llevaba a la cascada seguí de largo y nunca la vi. Veía un río y lo seguí, pero la cascada nunca aparecía. Habré caminado una media hora bosque adentro y cada vez escuchaba más lejos la caída del agua así que tuve que volver, porque según lo que había visto en el mapa, la cascada estaba muy cerca de la calle. Cuando ya estaba saliendo del bosque, veo un pequeño sendero que desviaba hacia la derecha y finalmente ahí estaba el salto de agua, con cartel incluido. Hasta hoy no sé como hice para no verla, pero me alegré de haberla encontrado al fin 😅.

In the reviews on the map I had read some that said the waterfall was no big deal, and it's true that it wasn't like the Iguazu Falls, but there was still something nice about sitting and looking at it. All the way through the forest I didn't meet anyone, so I had all the space to myself. I enjoyed having my second breakfast there, listening to the falling water and enjoying the peace of the place. And although I said I like walking, I was a bit lazy on the way back, so I went back on the bus that was passing nearby. <strong>I had already seen everything I wanted to see, so getting back comfortably and faster was no problem 😅.</strong>

<blockquote>En las reseñas del mapa había leído algunas que decían que la cascada no era la gran cosa, y es cierto que no era como las Cataratas del Iguazú, pero igual había algo lindo en sentarse a contemplarla. En todo el camino en el bosque no me crucé con nadie, por lo que tuve todo el espacio para mí sola. Me gustó tener mi segundo desayuno ahí, escuchando la caída del agua y disfrutando de la paz del lugar. Y si bien dije que me gusta caminar, a la vuelta ya tenía un poco de pereza así que volví en el bus que pasaba por ahí cerca. <strong>Ya había visto todo lo que quería ver, por lo que volver cómoda y más rápido no era ningún problema 😅.</strong>
