<strong>Hello everyone, friends of Hive and Needle Work Monday.</strong> After the 4-day weekend we had in Argentina for the summer carnivals, I show up again. The truth is that I should have resumed my activity yesterday but an extra day of rest is not bad. Well, not to literally rest because I was working a bit on one of the projects that I wanted to do for a long time and <strong>it is a new dress for my goddaughter Magalí. Hope you like it :)</strong> ❤️

When I started to get interested in sewing, what I liked the most was recycling clothes: what motivated me to have a sewing machine was the possibility of finishing these projects faster than sewing by hand, as I was doing at that time. But hand sewing is also quite entertaining and it was during the quarantine isolation that I did some projects to pass the time. One of those projects was a dress for my goddaughter Magui, who at that time was just a 7-month-old baby. When I made this dress, I had no idea that a few months later my long-awaited machine would arrive and that I would learn a lot more: life is unpredictable sometimes 😃.

Cuando empecé a interesarme por la costura lo que más me gustaba era reciclar ropa: lo que me motivaba a tener una máquina de coser era la posibilidad de terminar estos proyectos más rápidamente que cosiendo a mano, como lo hacía en ese momento. Pero la costura a mano también es bastante entretenida y fue durante el aislamiento de la cuarentena cuando hice algunos proyectos para pasar el rato. Uno de esos proyectos fue un vestido para mi ahijada Magui que en ese momento era apenas una bebita de 7 meses. Cuando hice este vestido no tenía idea que algunos meses después llegaría mi tan ansiada máquina y que aprendería un montón de cosas más: la vida es impredecible a veces 😀.

Today, Magui is already 3 and a half years old, and of course she has grown a bit since then. I've been wanting to make a new outfit for her for a long time: I like small size projects that I can finish quickly, so I got to work on a dress that's her new size. I also took the opportunity to use two fabrics from my patchwork box: one was an old shirt and the other was a trench coat of unknown origin 😅. I wasn't quite sure how these fabrics would work together but in the end the result was great ❤️.

Hace tiempo que tenía ganas de hacer un traje nuevo para ella: me gustan los proyectos de tamaño pequeño que puedo terminar rápido, entonces puse manos a la obra con un vestido que sea de su nuevo talle. También aproveché para usar dos telas de mi caja de retazos: una era una vieja camisa y la otra una gabardina de origen desconocido 😅. No estaba muy segura de como resultarían estas telas juntas pero al final el resultado fue muy bueno ❤️.

This is the second dress I have made for a person, but I have quite a bit of experience in making dresses for my Barbie style doll. For the bib, I simply copied the pattern of a t-shirt of hers and the skirt would be a ruffled rectangle, like any basic dress. Probably what took me the most work was arranging the internal pieces of the dress so that the neckline and hems are neat, but after several tips I found online to get it right I managed to get it right 😅.

Este es el segundo vestido que hago para una persona, pero tengo bastante experiencia en confección de vestidos para mi muñeca estilo Barbie. Para la pechera simplemente copié el molde de una remera de ella y la pollera sería un rectángulo fruncido, como cualquier vestido básico. Probablemente lo que me llevó más trabajo fue arreglar las piezas internas del vestido para que el cuello y las sizas queden prolijas, pero después de varios consejos que encontré en linea para hacerlo bien logré que me quede bien 😅.

Another great thing about the white fabric is that since it used to be a shirt, I was able to take advantage of its buttons to be the ones for the new dress. This was very good because my machine doesn't make buttonholes and the truth is that I didn't know how I was going to do them if I needed them. Also, the shirt had some really cute covered buttons, so I was glad I got to keep them ❤️.

Otra cosa genial de la tela blanca es que como antes era una camisa pude aprovechar la parte de sus botones para que sean los del vestido nuevo. Esto fue muy bueno porque mi máquina no hace ojales y la verdad que no sabía como iba a hacerlos en el caso de necesitarlos. Además, la camisa tenía unos botones forrados muy lindos, así que me alegré de poder conservarlos ❤️.

The skirt also took me a lot of work because I had to join 3 rectangles to get a length that can be gathered later, in addition to the hem and having to finish off all the edges with zigzag stitching. Surely the overlock machine would have been very useful in this case, but recently I saw one for sale at 200,000 ARS (560 USD approx), so I don't know when I'll have one. What do you think of this price? 😶

La pollera me llevó bastante trabajo también porque tuve que unir 3 rectángulos para obtener un largo que después pueda fruncirse, además del dobladillo y de tener que rematar todos los bordes con costura zigzag. Seguramente la máquina overlock hubiese sido muy útil en este caso, pero recientemente vi una en venta a 200.000 ARS (560 USD aprox), por lo que no sé cuando tendré alguna. ¿Qué opinan de este precio? 😶

Just like making Barbie's little dresses, matching the skirt to the top is the crucial part, but nothing a few pins can't fix. Once both pieces are fastened, all that remains is to join the back part, leaving a space in the skirt free so that the baby can enter the dress later. Finally, I decorated the bib with some diamond-shaped buttons and that was it 😃.

Al igual que en la confección de los pequeños vestidos de Barbie, la parte crucial es que coincida la pollera con la parte superior, pero nada que unos cuantos alfileres no puedan resolver. Una vez que ambas piezan quedan sujetas, solo resta unir la parte de atrás, dejando libre un espacio en la pollera para que después la nena pueda entrar en el vestido. Finalmente, decoré la pechera con unos botones con forma de diamante y eso fue todo 😃.

And this is what the baby Magui looks like in her new outfit. In the pandemic, she had to wait until the isolation was relaxed a bit to be able to try on her dress, but this time the next day she was able to wear it for the first time ❤️.

Finishing this dress took me 3 days over the long weekend because Monday afternoon I cut out the pieces, Tuesday night I sewed the top, and yesterday afternoon I finished the rest of the work. I liked doing it this way because it was quite relaxed and at every moment of sewing I was able to do everything with my greatest patience.

Lastly, I would like to dedicate this project to two girls who are very clear about making girls' dresses: @monica-ene and @razielmorales. I always enjoy seeing the beautiful work they do and that is why I want to share this work with them. <strong>I hope you liked it. I say goodbye until next time and I hope you manage to complete all the projects you have in mind ❤️.</strong>

Terminar este vestido me tomó 3 días del fin de semana largo porque la tarde del lunes recorté las piezas, la noche del martes cosí la parte de arriba y ayer por la tarde terminé el resto del trabajo. Me gustó hacerlo así porque fue bastante relajado y en cada momento de costura pude hacer todo con mi mayor paciencia.

Por último, quisiera dedicarles este proyecto a dos chicas que la tienen muy clara en la confección de vestidos de niñas: @monica-ene y @razielmorales. Siempre disfruto ver los trabajos hermosos que hacen y es por eso que quiero compartir este trabajo con ellas. <strong>Espero que les haya gustado.
