On the flip side, I have long stretches of intense creativity where I pour myself into my writing. I love it. I have so many stories, and shaping them into something worth publishing is a long journey, but it’s worth it. I’ve made peace with the ups and downs of my process. When inspiration is flowing, I write. When I hit burnout, I give myself permission to not write. Which is why it’s taken me so long to blog about my book on Hive. I just couldn’t push anymore. And here I am taking baby steps toward productivity again. It’s a cycle. Balance comes from self-care, and part of that has been playing guitar. I got out my 12-string yesterday and played it for hours. It felt so good! I’m taking a break before diving into revisions of *Dragons in the Weaving,* the sequel to *Falling.* Book two of the *Roots and Stars* series brings more magic, gods, and dragons into the mix, and it’s such a fun story, but I want to approach it with a fresh perspective, which means giving myself time. Lately, I’ve been having a ton of fun adapting my novels into screenplays. It’s a whole new format of writing to explore, and something I’ve wanted to do since I read James Cameron’s *Terminator 2* screenplay in grade eight. Pressing pause on writing novels also gives me a chance to look at how much I’ve accomplished thus far, rather than always being focused on the next thing. I’ve published two novels, one non-fiction book, and a collection of poetry and short stories.
