After the Alt-Right usurped Pepe the Frog as a sort of mascot, the creator was Not Amused. In fact Matt Furie was so furious that he officially [declared Pepe dead](https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/08/us/pepe-the-frog-comic.html).

But that didn’t stop people from abusing the poor animal so the creator now uses the law to not very gently pat their heads. ### Short explanation of copyright

While in the US system only allows to have, wield and sell commercial rights, the EU system also allows the creator to have *moral rights*. Under those the alt-right abusers would not only be liable for copyright infringement but also for violating the moral views of the creator. Those processes are rare but happen. 

I doubt this will stop the Alt-Right to do what they want. It is more likely they will just see it as a sort of attack on their values, which clearly not extend to respecting creators and their intentions.
