It was on a dreary night of November that the end of the MSLPA partnership was announced, cards stripped of their appearance and names, and the community was left with more questions than answers. A rare appearance from Yabapmatt to make the fateful announcement sent a clear message to the community that things were serious.

The cards we had known and collected for over a year were gone.... but were they? The game remained the same, the stats remained the same, and things... just carried on. Maarten Paes, Luiz Araujo, Gregore, these names still exist in the memory of the OGs of the game, but they will never be used again in the game.

As time carried on, there have been many suggestions to create new art for these cards, and one of the most prominent was to use generative AI to create new fantasy-themed artwork, like the one seen in the title image. An army of orcs, elves, dwarves and dragons playing soccer. It is a promising idea, but will they go for it? Other alternatives would be to lean in the cartoon-style artwork the team was preparing for season 2, or to merge the GLG IP directly with splinterlands, and create players and coaches consistent with the Splinterlands lore.
