Greetings Readers!

I actually have a free day today, so I can write on Fledgling a little! Looking forward to it as the story is starting to come together nicely in my head. Now I just need to get it down on paper.

This weekend is going to be super busy, as it's my 12th anniversary with my partner. It's been way too long!

Other than that, I don't have any other news, so enjoy today's update!

Bolx was snapped back to the current time by Saita joining him in the sunning room. She sat next to him for a few minutes before she pushed down on his knees. He lowered them and allowed her to lie over his legs. She folded her arms under her head and stared out of the sunning room’s windows at the setting sun. She said nothing and neither did Bolx. The Saith picked up his book and started reading. After some time, his right hand started running up and down the human’s back absentmindedly. He had missed this. The times when there wasn’t fighting, and he could live his life. These moments were always fleeting, and he knew he had to cherish them every time they occurred.

“I wanted to kill him.” Said Saita as the sun disappeared below the horizon.

“I know.”

“I was owed that.”

“I know.”

She was silent for a while before she said, “But I don’t think he deserved the Fell Dragon killing him.”

“Oh no, he deserved everything that was done to him. Keep in mind, that he was turning you into the future Fell Dragon. Who’s to say that this Dragon wasn’t one of his failed creations out to get him.”

Saita nodded her head. They were silent for a few more minutes before she asked, “Do you think she really wants to destroy my life?”

“I think she is trying to get under your skin and get you distracted, and she has managed that.”

The human once more nodded her head before rolling over, unintentionally managing to elbow Bolx hard enough for his breath to be knocked from him. He dropped his book and grumbled as he viewed the human now lying face up across his legs.

“Do you feel better after your temper tantrum?” he asked.

“You heard that?”

“I have better hearing than humans.”

She looked up at the ceiling, not catching his eye. She was angry and sad. With her memories restored, she knew the whole truth. There were moments when she was grateful for the Dekai, but they were greatly outweighed by the hate in her heart. Yet, he had raised her son. She sighed and looked to Bolx who continued to look at her.

“You said he deserved everything done to him, this is less about me and more about Kaiden, isn’t it?”

While Bolx didn’t mind talking about Kaiden, there were things he wasn’t comfortable sharing with Saita. He thought this over and sighed a little under his breath, “Remember when I came to you during your banishment, and I told you Kaiden chose to have the machine put into her.”

“Vaguely. I was pretty out of it after my fight.”

“I lied.” He whispered.

Saita must have heard the pain in his voice because he could see how her face darkened.

“It’s true that she allowed it to be done to her, but she was painted into a corner with no way out. She thought it was the only way to save those around her and it didn’t help that the Dekai was whispering in her ear when I wasn’t around. If he hadn’t come to her…”

“You don’t have to tell me. It’s okay.” She sat up and hugged him.

“Thank you for never pushing.” He said as he wrapped his arms around her.

“You didn’t push. I am only returning the favour.”

Instead of planning her return to the humans that night, Saita sent a message to her brother to come see her. Although she had been on Saith for a year, both he and her had been too busy to meet on the planet. With her now running out of time, she knew she had a promise to keep to her little brother.

Bolx sat and watched the two of them communicate for a few minutes before he went to the kitchen to start dinner. While he gathered the ingredients for dinner, he thought back to when Kaiden had finally made the decision to undergo the surgeries that destroyed her. It still brought a hollow feeling to Bolx, and he felt the sting of anger and sorrow start in his eyes.

He had wanted to help her, but she had started to push him away. He was so sure he was going to lose her back then. He was so distracted in his thoughts that he didn’t even hear Saita telling him that she was going to get her brother and she’d be back soon. Bolx continued to make dinner, his thoughts elsewhere. He almost jumped when Saita returned with her brother.

It had been a long time since Bolx had seen the young prince and was almost shocked by how much he looked like the boy from his time. Aleux viewed the Saith before him and turned to Saita to whisper, “Did he just see a ghost?”

Saita must have realised why Bolx had lost all colour in his face. She forced her brother to sit on one of the stools at the kitchen bar while indicating to him.
“Don’t think you two ever officially met. Aleux, Bolx. Bolx, Aleux.”

Bolx forced a smile on his face before inclining his head a little, “In all my time of meeting people between the two times, you are the one that looks the most like your counterpart. Including being taller than your sister.”

The Saith wiped his hands on a dishcloth before extending it to the human. Aleux gave a side glance to Saita before putting his hand forward to shake the Saith’s hand.

“So, you’re the guy banging my sister?”

Bolx snorted as Saita slapped the back of her brother’s head before she muttered, “I told you that in confidence! It better not make it back to Mother or Saseric.”

“Well, news certainly travels fast.” Bolx grinned. “I assume you’re here for dinner. Should I invite the rest of my family?”

“Let’s just have the three of us tonight.” Saita placed a finger on the side of her brother’s head and said in a harsh whisper, “Be nice. If things go the way I want them to, he’s going to be your King consort.”

Aleux grinned broadly while Bolx felt the red growing in his neck. He made a lame excuse to continue with dinner while telling the siblings to go enjoy the evening air. He didn’t want Saita to see how her comment had affected him. Last night’s conversation about their future had been nothing but a conversation to Bolx. He was so used to having his world pulled out from under him, that he struggled to want to plan for the future. Clearly, it had been something far different for Saita, as she was already planning a future with him. He didn’t know whether to feel terrified or ecstatic. However, as he continued preparing the meal, he could feel the happiness draining from him. He was terrified of this being taken from him too, but he couldn’t let Saita see that as she clearly wanted to show him off to her little brother.

Once the food was simmering, he took a few bottles of Saith beer out into the garden and offered them to Saita and Aleux. Aleux jumped at the opportunity to try something exotic, but Saita grabbed it and seemed to be doing some mental calculations.

“I’m over 18, and we both know Mom and Dad have been sneaking me wine and beer since I was ten.” He grinned, “Or are you worried I’ll tell embarrassing stories about you when I have too much to drink?”

Saita rolled her eyes and handed him his drink before taking the one that Bolx offered her. While not a big drinker, she could appreciate the offer. The three of them sat enjoying their drink and staring at the sky, while Bolx periodically got up to check on the food. He kept supplying them with drinks until Saita jumped up to get some bowls before Bolx had the opportunity to return to the house.

“Sit for a while.” Said Aleux as he leaned back to look at the twin moons. “I’m sure my sister did this only for the two of us to meet.”

“Oh, she definitely did that.”

Aleux continued to look at the moons before he asked, “I’m dead in your time, aren’t I?”

“My face gave away that much?”

“You lost all the colour until I made the offhanded joke.” Aleux looked at him at last.

Bolx lifted his gaze to the moons and sighed, “Saita must have told you quite a bit about my time.”

“Some. She had hoped we would have more time to bond or whatever, but I have been busy, and her training kept her from making plans. Now the damn creature is dead, and she is far more stressed than I have seen her in years.”

“You knew Edzeeker?”

Aleux gritted his teeth and muttered, “He killed my father, tried to kill me and my mother. He took away my sister and I hated myself for it ever since. Yes, I know the damn Dekai and I am glad he finally got to pay for what he did.”

Bolx leaned over the table and held his drink forward. Aleux, understanding the gesture, clinked his bottle against the Saith’s before they both took a deep drink.

“Hear, hear.” Muttered Bolx.

“Well said.”

They continued to sit in silence until Saita brought out the necessary cutlery and crockery. She seemed so happy to have her brother here. She lost the smile on her face when Aleux asked, “So, how did I die?”

“Aleux!” she chided him.

Bolx put a hand on her lower back, causing her to look down at him.
“I was going to tell you the story anyway tonight. I don’t mind telling another.”

“It doesn’t change the fact that my brother is being rude.” She scoffed.

“I have waited a year to get an invitation out here, let me enjoy what time you have left here. I don’t think I will have much time to converse with the Saith when you go home.” Said Aleux.

“We.” Said Bolx suddenly.

“We?” queried the siblings.

“I’m going with you Saita. I told you; I have no obligation here. I’ll be going with you when you go home.” He grinned, “And you heard Saasha. We have to explain this to your parents.”

He indicated the two of them. Aleux couldn’t help his smile as he looked up at his sister, “Oh this is serious. Mom is going to lose her mind.”

“I’m not doing this for them!” stammered Saita, clearly embarrassed.

“No, you’re finally doing something for yourself, and about time!” Aleux drank from the bottle. “So, before we start on the doom and gloom, tell me how the two of you met?”

Sighing, but also smiling, Saita told her brother how Bolx had fallen into her life. This was the first time Bolx had been privy to her feelings around the time they had met. Listening to her fears being exposed left him wondering if he had done anything right, but a hand on his knee made him change his mind soon after. There was really no other way for this to have played out. He stepped away from the conversation to bring the stew to the table. Once he set to pot down, Saita got to her feet.

“I’m going to get some bread to go with this. Aleux should get to experience it all together.”

Bolx nodded his head and started dishing as she wandered to the kitchen.

“Don’t let her hurt you.” Said Aleux softly.

Bolx was startled by the statement but before he could ask for clarification, the young prince inclined his head after his sister.

“She isn’t like you and me. Yes, we have both been through torment and trauma, but nothing compared to what she has. I don’t think she has ever learned how to handle everything that has happened, despite her memories being returned to her. So, don’t let her hurt you.”

“Thank you for the concern, but I can manage.”

Soon, the three of them were sitting and enjoying the home-cooked meal. It was in relative silence before Aleux tapped his spoon on the pot.

“Enough stalling, mate, let’s hear about my fate.”

Saita was about to round on her brother when Bolx started his tale.

“The prince was about seven years younger than his adopted sister, which I believe is the same here?”

Aleux nodded his head.

“He was a good kid, had a good head on his shoulders. If Saita…”

“I know that wasn’t her name.” interrupted Aleux.

Bolx sighed, “If Kaiden hadn’t been chosen to be the new heir, then he would have made a fine king.”

“But it wasn’t meant to be.”

“No.”
