Hi All

In today's update, you'll notice that Shareik is starting to feel more than a little guilty over his hand in everything. This is his redemption arc. It's short and brutal, so stay tuned for next week's update!

Shareik had arrived at the human castle to be told that the young queen wasn’t there at present but would be home shortly after their tour of a planet was over. He had been taken to a room and allowed to freshen up. While he knew what he needed to do, he was apprehensive about it. All the steps to this dance needed to be played correctly, or this plan would fail. He knew his time was short, but he also knew that he could end this.

He had allowed himself to meditate for a few hours before a servant came to collect him. Turns out that the queen had just arrived, and he had been invited to have dinner with her. He was surprised, as the last time he and Saita had interacted, it had been violent. He took a deep breath and followed the servant to the prepared room.

The servant took him to a small dining hall and seated him just as the Saith Bolx came into the room. This shocked the Heavenly a little. He hadn’t known that he would be here, he was sure the Saith queen had sent him on a mission. Then he realised what that mission had been. He smiled to himself. Saasha had never trusted him and made sure she had players in place, despite calling her past husband back to her side.

“Shareik, it’s been some time.” Said Bolx as he inclined his head.

The Heavenly stood and bowed. This one, he knew wasn’t of this time either. He was the reason this time had started preparation for the Fell Dragon as early as they had. Bolx was the very reason so many fate strings had been extended.

“Saita will be with us shortly, she had something to deal with a few loose ends before joining.” Bolx sat down to the right of the Heavenly.

“Has she been well?”

“As well as she could be. It’s been difficult since Pura’s passing, but with her father’s guidance, so ruling hasn’t taken too much from her.”

“I was unaware that the old human king had passed.” The Heavenly sat down.

“It wasn’t sudden, but it wasn’t easy on him. He had all but wasted away. He had asked to be left in peace in the end. I don’t think he wanted anyone to be sad about his passing. It hit Saita hard that he had left under the cover of darkness to a cabin in the mountains to live out the last of his days.”

Bolx poured himself something to drink and then offered the Heavenly some, which he accepted. While he sipped at the drink, he took the time to look at the Saith’s fate. He was rather surprised at what it showed. He wasn’t sure what it meant as there was a fate shimmering in and out of existence. He had never seen this before. It was as if this fate would be decided upon a single action being done.

Shareik was still pondering the meaning when Saita appeared. He felt a smile spread upon his face when he saw her. Gone was the partially emaciated, sickly girl he had come to know. Before him was a stunning young woman who had learned to deal with what had essentially been a death sentence handed to her. He glanced at the Saith and caught him smiling lovingly at the queen. Shareik could see now that the reason Saita had changed so much was the Saith that sat next to her. Her energy was calm as she acknowledged the Heavenly; he stood to bow to her.

He took a quick look at her to see what her fates looked like. He was startled to see the same glimmering fate string as the Saith. The confusion on his face must have alerted the queen as she bade him sit and drink something.

“Most kind of you, Your Majesty.” He said as he sat down.

He quickly started to understand the situation that had arisen between these two individuals. It would explain the fate. Yet, Shareik also understood how difficult it would be for that fate to come true. He looked at his hands. He could guarantee it, but it would take what little power he had left. Making it more difficult to do what he had to, but it wouldn’t be impossible.

He looked up at Saita and found her smiling at him. It was a big change from the snarl she had worn with her arms covered in fire. Yes, he decided, he would cement that fate. He glanced over to the Saith, who was speaking to a servant. He wouldn’t be the worst of those he had to choose.

Shareik returned the queen’s smile and asked, “Have you been well?”

Saita immediately told him about the advances she had made in her training, and how she was able to tap into the thing she wore for more control and power. As she spoke, he knew it to be true. She had accepted her fate, whatever it was going to happen. He could feel that she was guarded and didn’t speak of the future, keeping all her conversations about the now. She wasn’t planning for a future because she was convinced that there wasn’t one for her. She was enjoying the time she had now. He almost wanted to tell her what his plan was but stopped himself. He couldn’t tell her about the sacrifices he would have to make to keep her alive and by proxy, the other Heavenly.

He felt his smile grow. He had made his mind up. He would use the last of the power he had stored. He closed his eyes for a few seconds, bowed his head, and then got to his feet.

“Shareik?” Saita stopped what she had been talking about.

“Your Majesty, I am here for the algorithm the prince is developing. I think I can use it to find the Wolven that is with the Fell Dragon, therefore bypassing them and ensuring we can get the cage when the time is ready.”

He made his way over to her and lay a hand on her shoulder. She didn’t flinch at him touching her, but she wasn’t pleased with it.

“If the cage is prepared, it’ll be easier to put the Fell Dragon back.” He lied smoothly.

“I thought there wasn’t enough of you to control the cage or the Wolven.”

“We lost control of the Wolven, they are all hers now, but there aren’t as many as there had been in the past. That or she is exerting her will over a particularly powerful one. As for us not being enough, well, you know that time isn’t as linear as what you’re used to. We don’t have enough right now, but more Heavenly may come across this time in their travels, travels that are in their past but still our future.”

“Time travel has always confused me.” Said Saita.

He continued to hold onto her shoulder as he said, “Which is why I took away that power from you.”

Once it started looking as if Saita was getting uncomfortable, he released her. He had done what he could, almost thankful for the work Sellious had done. It was easy to undo as it was nothing but a small fail-safe.

“All I need is to see the program. I can combine it with my knowledge to get to where I need.”

“You keep saying I, you can’t seriously be thinking of doing this alone.”

“I won’t be alone.” He lied. “Matta will play the part he must, and I will do the rest.

He then put a hand in his robes and removed a grubby piece of paper that looked like it had been torn from something. He then handed it to the queen, only to be met with confusion.

“I believe you humans refer to it as an I.O.U.”

“A favour?” Saita looked over it, not recognizing it as more than a grubby piece of paper.

“Not yet, there are too few of us, but in the future, who will know? It’s not a full favour, it’s part of one.”

Saita looked at him in distrust, but she pocketed the paper all the same. At that moment, food was brought, and Shareik made his way to his chair. As he passed the Saith, he leaned in and said, “You can give her the happiness she deserves.”

The Saith looked confused but shook it off as food was placed before him. Shareik sat down and once more looked at the pair’s fates. He had cemented the line but noticed something else had changed in Bolx’s. He sighed, there was nothing more he could do about the change. He would just have to believe what he had changed would be enough.

“Thank you for the meal, Your Majesty.” He said sadly, as he started on the meal.
