Graffiti is a special, very interesting form of street art, often anonymous and rebellious.

This particular graffiti below, I found painted on the walls of the yard of a friend's house at the outskirt of a small mountain town. Probably at night.

As I took it some time ago, I am pretty certain this painting doesn't exist anymore. It is erased either by my friend or by the county as a public park is next to it and it could be seen from everywhere.

Let's say you need a photo of a graffiti for your either commercial or editorial works. The usual logic would be to visit an online stock photo agency and license a photo. But you won't find there the best pieces of this art. Why is that?

The stock photo agencies does not accept such images as editorials. If a stock contributor uploads such photo as an editorial image the reviewers will shortly reject it as "non-license-able" content. In order for such creation to be included in a stock agency database, it has to be accompanied by a property release, issued by the author. You may even need two property releases as if the building is recognizable the agency might require that too. While getting a release from the building owner might be relatively easy, finding the graffiti author and then getting the release is virtually impossible. As I noted, most of them street painters are and would stay anonymous. Due to the way they express their beliefs and due to the fact they are sometimes considered to be destroying these properties.

Stock photo agencies are the biggest databases of images, perhaps some could say they are our visual memory. Due to their commercial origin, it's the easiest and probably the safest way to store and find images (and footage, of course).

As a result of those specifics, most of the world best graffiti isn't presented with them, as most of it gets rejected.
