Many farangs are not walking ATMs and live at the subsistence level in Thailand
In the social networks and in many Thailand forums, the monthly income of farangs in Thailand is now a hot topic. The foreigners in Thailand are no longer the walking ATMs, as they are still partially seen by many Thais.

Many Thais are still thinking about joining or marrying a foreigner. Many of them still have the dollar signs in their eyes, and see their "handsome farang" as nothing more than a walk-in ATM that can otherwise be ignored like a piece of furniture, Thai Visa reports, according to a recent monthly income survey the foreigner living in Thailand.

But times are long gone, if you want to believe the survey of Thai Visa. In the survey, Thai Visa has found that many Western expats have already left Thailand or are considering leaving Thailand in the near future.

The survey asked 1,429 expatriates living in the Kingdom to disclose their monthly income.

According to the survey, nearly a quarter of the expats (23%) are said to be getting away with less than 45,000 baht a month. Many of them even have to settle for much less than 45,000 baht, as the survey range stated was 25,000 to 45,000 baht.

Many people would consider this as subsistence minimum, and can live with this sum only alone. To a Thai girlfriend, a wife, or a partner who also has to take care of their children is not to think. Or, as is usually still the case, a wife or partner who, in addition to her children, has to look after an extended family. Here even 45,000 baht should be regarded as very scarce.

Thai Visa further reports that about 20% of expats even have to try to survive in Thailand with less than 25,000 baht.

The good news that emerged from the survey: many expats have their own rooms, houses, or apartments, so they do not have to pay rent. Most also own a motorcycle or a car, so they are flexible and can save themselves the monthly rent for a vehicle.

However, the survey also found that about half of the expatriates living in Thailand have more than 65,000 baht and many well over 65,000 baht each month.
