What Does Hive Mean To Me? - The end of a nightmare that is yet to come

The events and weeks leading up to HIVE was like re-living a one-year nightmare for me.

- life wasn't perfect but we got on with our lives
- then the iron fist started getting heavier
- promises looked as they were going to be broken
- things got worse, they twisted all the facts to make themselves look better
- they censored voices they didn't want to hear
- then they didn't care anymore, they just trashed everything
**Sounds familiar?**

That was Steem, and it's also real life in Hong Kong - today. This is the nightmare the people from Hong Kong have been, and still are living through. But here's where the similarity ends. Hong Kong is still fighting back.

The Steem community were luckier. We fought back, and we created a new world. One that we own and manage collectively, free of any iron fist. For most ex Steemians, Hive represents the true decentralised uncensored world we deserve.

For me, Hive means much more.

If the ex Steem community can do it, it is not impossible for the people of Hong Kong to do the same. That day will come. I'm pretty sure of it.

In the meanwhile, Steem was my home for over two years. But after Sun trashed it, it would never be the same again. There was no doubt whatsoever Hive would be my new home. Once I up all my roots on Steem, that will be it forever.
Until then ....

#### What do you want to see HIVE evolve into?

I want all the abuse to disappear. *Ain't gonna happen, I know*
I want Hive to be a spam-free community. *That's a big ask*
I want the voices of the mass to be listened to. *Fair ask*
I want circle jerk vote to stop, from abusers to whales. *Please*
I want less shit post. *Make an effort*
I want to be a Hive Whale. *Sorry, got carried away*
##### I want to see Hive to be a better place than Steem. *Simple*
Engagement and community are fundamental to how Hive operates. To a certain extent, community is what destroyed Steem, even before Sun came along. I started my Steem journey in the Chinese community, and I am forever grateful for the support from the old timers in the CN community. Then the CN community grew and the nature changed. For good or for bad depends on how you look at it and when you started on Steem. Genuine engagement and quality content creation started to dwindle.

My point is, if all the communities, be it language, topics or interest have a strong and responsible leader, the sum of the communities will be greater than the community as a whole. Take the Wuhan Virus now. You only need one selfish person in a community, one selfish community in the world, and that could break the entire system.

#### What do you think about having a large funded DAO for future HIVE development?
Is this the same as the intention of the ninja stake, and what the SPS was supposed to achieve? I just checked the SPS budget on Steem - SBD285,383.442. That was from the community's post payout, I hardly think the community would be getting it back.

How's the large funded DAO going to be funded? Out of post payout again? Voluntary contributions? Reducing the reward pool?

How would development funding be allocated? By DPoS? One person one vote? By committee?

An ecosystem, be it an organisation, a company, or a blockchain cannot stay stationary. This is especially so for technology. Things move so quickly and we need to keep on moving forward. Hive doesn't move by itself, people moves it. And that's where development comes in.

Nobody pays to use Hive, so any chain development cost has to come from somewhere. There's no free lunch in this world. Other than that, to be very honest, I have no idea about this at all.

I titled my post **The end of a nightmare that is yet to come** because this whole Sun issue on Steem is a repeat of the Hong Kong protest situation. The Hive nightmare has finished but not the Hong Kong one.
