I have a friend who loves chinese food, and I mean really loves it…it’s kind of a sickness. Now while that might not seem like such a big deal, the real problem is that we have no access to decent Chinese food here. After being dragged to every disgusting restaurant in the area, I decided I really needed to figure out how to make his favorite dish, Mongolian Beef. I found this to be much more challenging than I originally thought it would be. You see, I am someone who cooks by taste, not so much by measuring…and well, that just didn’t work with this. I discovered that everything about this style of cooking was completely different than anything I had ever done. So, after many failed attempts... I am proud to say that I have mastered the art of Mongolian Beef. I wanted to share my recipe with you today, in case you knew someone with a sickness as well.
 --- #
The Recipe

2 lbs Steak 2 Yellow Onions, Sliced 2 Bunches Green Onions, Sliced ½ Cup Cornstarch ½ Cup Coconut Oil ### The Sauce 2 Tbsp Olive Oil ½ Cup Fresh Ginger, Chopped 1 Head of Garlic, Peeled and Chopped ½ Cup Low Sodium Soy Sauce ½ Cup Water ¾ Cup Brown Sugar

--- #
The Process

### The Sauce
First we are going to be making the sauce so that it has time to thicken while we are finishing up the other components. * Place 3Tbsp Olive Oil into a small saucepan over medium heat until hot * Add Chopped Garlic and Ginger and let cook for 2 mins * Pour in ½ cup water and ½ cup soy sauce * Then add ¾ cup of brown sugar * Stir mixture and bring to a boil, then turn heat to low and let simmer while you continue to the next step.
### The Meat
We use a cut of New York Strip Steak because it is something we get in bulk. Any tender cut would work in this recipe though, including skirt steak. * You will want to slice the steak against the grain in thin strips. * Then add your cornstarch to a plate and toss steak strips in the powder until fully coated.

* Heat your coconut oil in a heavy pan till scolding hot and pan fry your steak, making sure not to crowd the pan. * You want a nice crisp to the steak without over cooking it, so make sure your oil is hot and turn as soon as you get that beautiful brown crisp. * Once you have done so to all of your steak, set aside.

### The Vegetables
Next we are going to quickly sauté our onions, making sure not to overcook them. I am sticking with the traditional Mongolian Beef ingredients here, but you could also add additional vegetables to this including spinach, zucchini, red peppers, broccoli etc.

### Putting It Together
Now we are just going to add our meat to the cooked onions and pour sauce over them while giving them a good stir. Let the mixture cook over medium heat for 5 minutes, then add in your green onions and a dash of red pepper flakes if you want a bit of a kick. That’s it, serve over rice and enjoy!

We hope you have enjoyed this recipe! Thank you for reading, Happy Homesteading.
