Hello there people of steem universe!
Today please allow me to share my new learning about hand lettering. So i was learning the Gothic Font which i guess everyone knows what it looks like hehe.
So the photo above is the Final Output of my first attempt in Gothic together with the tools i used.

And now, let me share to you on how i made the piece. I am just a beginner in this font so bare with me.

So i started of making three lines as my guide on how big my letters will be.

![IMG_20180429_205604.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmctSgiC4Q3carvPyicTSXx6DMRCm2XFtD1xdwLZrwR4Hq/IMG_20180429_205604.jpg)

Gothic fonts are usually made using a calligraphy pen that is a flat kind of brush
every calligraphers probably know this. But since i don't have the pen, so i used the pencil and then simulated the calligraphy pen in my mind (because apparently i've learned how a calligraphy pen works) so using the pencil i mocked the function of the calligraphy pen.

![IMG_20180429_210549.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmWosv34WWt3NRMQfoH91KMmmDrpQnTUMa9uF3AF9ETTai/IMG_20180429_210549.jpg)

I now have the draft for my letters, it was not bad for a first timer i guess hahaha. Then after making the sketch i outlined the letters using a permanent marker.

By the way i chose the word "Love" to practice the font is that because recently a lot of shooting happened in US, and Syria is being haunted of terrorism. It feels like the world is running out of love. In which we should always spread Love.

Then after outlining the letters i erased all the pencil markings and then started to blacken all of the letters.

The letters looks a lot better now, but it still needs some shadowing. Just a heads up though, please forgive my shadows they're such a mess because i was having a hard time using the marker.

But hey i still pulled the shadow off haha.
So after the messy shadow, i used my white inked pen from Uni to put some depth on to the letters.

And voila! There you have it, my first attempt in Gothic font.I used a preference guide to make the letters, so if you feel like wanting to learn you can try and learn. Because you know what they say...

>Learning is a lifetime process

and...

>everything is learnable if you put your mind to it.

Thank you for letting me share this.
Keep learning!

Truly yours,
Arvill
