Honestly, I think it’s just my hair for the most part!! I have naturally long, thick hair and A LOT of it! I also have layers throughout my hair so that helps with the volume as well. But I’ll still share some of my tips!
First, I always prep a day before curling. I’ll wash my hair, and then apply a volumizing mousse evenly throughout while its damp. Then I’ll let it air dry or, for added volume, I blow dry upside down. Now when curling, always start with second day hair! The curls will stay in and last longer with stiffer hair. I will usually dry shampoo my roots with Batiste dry shampoo. I spray that all around my roots and then rub/brush it in. It makes second day hair feel fresh and it also gives my roots a little lift. I will use a round edge straightener or a 1″ curling wand depending on what kind of curls I’m going for. A straightener gives those perfect spiral curls, where as, the wand gives those messy, wavy curls. Always use protection! I apply “It’s a 10 keratin leave-in potion” as my heat protector. Then I section my hair into three layers going horizontally across (and then each section split in half to make it easier to curl). So, in order, I curl the bottom section, the middle section, and then the top section last. Whenever I finish a section, i will lightly hairspray and then twist it into a bun to keep the curls from loosening. When curling, I like to grab pieces that are about an inch thick. I alternate each curl left and right so that they don’t all end up conjoining together! This also makes you hair look fuller. After I’ve curled all three sections, I take them out of the buns and shake/loosen them up. I separate the curls with my fingers and just play with it until I’m satisfied. I apply the same It’s a 10 keratin potion throughout the curls, spray all over with hairspray and done! Lasts me for the next two-three days.
