Again with all of you, this time to share some views and statements about what would happen to Bitcoin in the hypothetical case of a nuclear war, and more considering the chaotic scenario that humanity is going through due to the insinuations of war that the world's major military powers have entered into.

The truth is, some experts opine on the different scenarios for Bitcoin in the hypothetical case of a nuclear war, for Nick Szabo, Ralph Merkle and other experts in the crypto ecosystem have stated several times that Bitcoin would survive a nuclear war.

Of course what these experts claim is something that is still impossible to verify, but the question is out there: is Bitcoin nuclear-proof, Ralph Merkle said that if a nuclear war destroyed half of our planet, Bitcoin would still be alive.

This is because Bitcoin would continue to offer its services, the only way to shut it down is to kill all the servers that host it, which is difficult, because the network is on several servers in many countries, now, the truth is that this statement may be somewhat debatable.

Many of the concerns and criticisms of Bitcoin's proof-of-work system relate to the waste it generates due to the energy needed to secure the network, which consumes more energy than some not-so-small countries.

However, one of the first problems humanity would encounter in a large-scale or even medium-scale nuclear conflict would be the lack of reliable energy sources.

This would not simply be due to a nuclear winter or a cooling of the Earth's atmosphere due to radioactive soot released into the air, which would render solar energy sources more or less useless, but also to global equipment shortages and transportation shocks.

Hence, with these arguments, it is confusing why crypto experts suggest that Bitcoin would survive a nuclear apocalypse, and why some advocates suggest buying Bitcoin to prepare. But I'd still like to hear your thoughts on the matter.

SOURCES CONSULTED

Wublock. What role will Bitcoin play in the aftermath of a nuclear war?. Link

OBSERVATION:

The cover image was designed by the author: @lupafilotaxia, incorporating image: Cryptowords.
