We sat in the park, his eyes fixed on the ground

Both restless, hanging on to a hope we never found

Weighing our options, a chase to the end

With words we couldn't speak, hearts we couldn't mend

"It's over" he finally whispered, like announcing a death-row sentence

I mimicked his words in my head, in an attempt to formulate a defense

But my mind seemed unprepared and my mouth has run dry

I anticipated the worst, but never a "goodbye"

I comforted my self with a lullaby, silencing all my demons

But I am helpless compared to their overwhelming rhymes and reasons

I couldn't focus on the situation at hand, No, I can't decide

So I let go of all sense of control, letting their voices be my guide

"OK," I whispered back, "If that's what you think is best"

And for the last time he let me lay my head on his chest,

I listened intently to the sound of his heartbeat, not to let him see my grim

I smiled victorious, knowing exactly where I should stab him.

^___^
