Esther 2:20 (KJV)
*Esther had not yet shewed her kindred nor her people; as Mordecai had charged her: for Esther did the commandment of Mordecai, like as when she was brought up with him.*

Here is an interesting piece of information concerning authority. Esther certainly was under no moral or biblical command to do as Mordecai charged:
**She was an adult
She was, at this point married
She was not Mordecai’s child**
Still, she submitted to his command even as she would have as a child. 

The lesson, as I see it, is that submission at this stage in her life was voluntary, not mandatory. Wise parenting may still influence a young adult, but it is not wise to attempt to force or impose the will upon them.
