## Introduction

One thing new Hivers discover is that earnings on their posts are limited to the first 7 days-- the first 168 hours after hitting the **PUBLISH** or **POST** button.  At first we're shocked that the earnings stop after the window closes, then we accept it once it's explained what makes the earnings possible.  Some chose to cut their Hive experience short, and that's OK.  For those who choose to remain, it's just how it is.

However, there are ways for us to earn from our older content-- and we have much older content than we realize!

Not only that, there are other ways we can earn aside from the ways we know about.

Here are 4 ways we can earn from our older content.

## Well-Known Methods To Earn from Older Content

### Comments

* They have their own 7-day period, even if you miss the one for the post itself. If people see the comment adds value, it will get upvoted. 
You can also make many comments across many posts.  While we can make maybe 2 posts a day, we also have the ability to make 50 to 100 comments a day. 

While comments earn less than posts, overall many can bring in a good chunk of change.  Just stay away from short comments or filler comments that don't add value.

### Engagement Tokens

* If a post or comment is older than 7 days, someone who likes what you had to say could send an engagement token-- or several-- your way at any time.

For some people, the engagement token itself has more value than the persons's actual upvote.  If they do engagement right, then the day will come when their upvote is worth more than the price of the engagement token.  This is yet another reason we should focus on engagement!

Common engagement tokens include PIZZA, LUV, BEER, and LOLZ, but [there are many others](https://ecency.com/hive-193084/@savvyplayer/list-of-hive-engine-tokens).

## Not So Well-Known Methods To Earn from Older Content

### Peer-to-Peer Tipping

* Another form of tipping is simply people sending tokens from their wallets to your wallet, and that can be done at any time.

The tipping could be done using HIVE, HBD, Ecency Points, Layer 2 tokens (LEO, POB, SPT, CINETV, SWAP.BTC, SWAP.DOGE, etc. -- any token available at Hive Engine). Just use the right method for sending them.  So that people don't go crazy trying to figure out where the extra tokens came from, a short memo can be included.

### Tipping via BuyMeBerries.com

* This I discovered a few days ago, but it's possible for us to be tipped in HBD using a tipping service at BuyMeBerries.com.  If you have a WordPress blog or use some other Big Tech blogging platform, you may have seen something similar called `buymecoffee`.

If you want people to tip you using this method, There are 2 things to do for this method to work:
1. Include `bmbhome` as a tag in the post; and 
2. Include a text link or an image in your post which points to your page at BuyMeBerries.com.  For example, my own post would include text something like:
> If you liked this post but it's older than 7 days, please send me a tip using this link: [https://buymeberries.com/@magnacarta](https://buymeberries.com/@magnacarta)

Anyone with a Hive account already has a page there, so it's a matter of including the link in a post and directing people to that page (I think; I haven't done this).

## What Else Can Be Done To Increase Earnings from Older Content?

Although there are other ways we can earn more HIVE, Hive Power, or Layer 2 tokens, they aren't directly involved with writing posts or comments.

For people who want to earn strictly from their blogging efforts-- if only to prove it can be done!-- that will happen sooner or later.  In many cases, take the later.

In terms of posting activities, any of the above methods of earning from older content can be enhanced using one additive: 

#### <center> 👉 Engagement 👈</center>

Before people can engage with our older content, we need to engage with their older content.  Remember that comments made there get their own 7-Day Window.  If a post of theirs solved a problem you had, let them know!  They want to know that their post had value even beyond the 7-Day Window.  Next time they see your Hive name, they'll remember that comment and be more receptive to engaging with you; by now, you know the rest.

## Just My Two Sats

I can see how the 7-day rule for post payout can be a turn-off for many people, but there are other ways to earn.

We're familiar with making comments and receiving engagement tokens.  
P2P tipping is _always_ available if we remember to send from one wallet to another.

A less-familiar tipping option is a service every Hiver can use called BuyMeBerries.com; by placing in the tag field tag `bmbhome` as well as by including a link you your own BuyMeBerries.com page, you can get tipped in HBD.

Since engagement means going to where other people are, we will most often be consuming other people's content.  If we find anything useful which solves a problem we had, addresses a concern, or answers a question, we should engage with the author of the older content to say thanks for sharing that solution/method/answer because it worked.  On top of being common courtesy and providing feedback, it also give the author another reason to remember our account name for when it comes time to give an upvote.
