Common Slug-eater (Duberria lutrix)
So we were doing the famous Fanie Botha Hiking Trail in Mpumalunga Province South Africa. The first day we reached the Hut nice and early. The youngsters on the hike played a game of Hide and Seek.
One young man climbed a tree to hide. He felt something on the back of his neck - It was a snake.
He threw it off and we caught it - a harmless Common Slug-eater.
It was interesting as this snake has never been associated with climbing trees. It is usually found on the ground.
Even the shape of the body of the snake is unlike most tree living snakes. It is sort of short and sluggish as apposed to long thinnish bodies of tree climbing snakes.
