What if your notebook (even if it's a low end, old one) can be turned in a mining machine? Well, that's possible.

Let's get straight to the point: the idea consists of exploiting an eGpu system specifically for your mining purposes. But what is an eGpu? It's a common gpu attached to a laptop/notebook with a diy system that usually consists of a pcie x1 to x16 riser, a psu and some software tweaks, usually implemented for gaming purposes. In this case we are going to use it to mine some juicy coins.

A well known eGpu riser: EXP GDC Beast

Ok but, where to attach the riser? You have multiple choises: you can exploit an express card slot (if your notebook has one), you can swap your wifi module and attach it there and next cope the lack of wireless connection with a usb dongle, or if you are lucky enough to have a laptop with a thunderbolt port you can use that with the best performance possible. You can also use all this solution simultaneously to maximize your profit.

What to expect from a system like this? Well, you'll be happy to know that your hashrates will be not so distant from those obtained with a common mining rig, and you can use your brand new system even for gaming! (expect some major performance loss in this last case depending on the gpu/laptop combo you chose, from 20 to 30%).

What are the pros from building instead a dedicated mining rig? Well, money.. to implement a diy gpu all you need to have is a gpu, a psu, a special riser and some patience to put all things together, there's no need to buy a motherboard, cpu, ram and so on since your notebook will cope for this lack, and since you are here to make money.. you got it.

So, this is my idea, I feel the need to share it since after a quick googling I saw that nearly nobody was thinking of putting mining and an eGpu together. Diy eGpu is still in its early state but if you are still with me and curious you can find plenty of guides and successfull implementations on TechInferno, egpu.io or just by googling "eGpu", obviously.

And that's it, this is my first article, if you like it and it inspired you in some way feel free to leave an upvote to welcome me in this brilliant community :)
